Crescendo! - Polishing my Penmanship
Hi, Crescendo! is the first Austerley & Kirkgordon Novel of which I am the creator. My name is G R Jordan and I am an aspiring writer seeking to give my penmanship the exposure that so often writers fail to achieve. Check my website at www.carpetlessleprechaun.co.uk
It was nearly two years ago when I began to understand that there was now a way to place my own work in the public sphere other than through the big publishers. I could control my work, getting the cover and editing I wanted. Taking the opportunity, I produced two books to test the waters of self-publishing, Four Life Emotions - a book of poetry, and A Darker Shade of Light - a Christian allegorical short story collection.
Having completed these projects on a budget of next to nothing, I realised that in order to bring my work to the standard of the industry I would need to hire a good editor and a top notch artist. So here follows the plan for producing my first novel!
The plan is to write a trilogy for my characters, Austerley & Kirkgordon. In order to do this I decided upon a writing goal of 1000 words per day at the start of this year. This had to be fitted in around my day job of being an air traffic controller and the running of a family. To date this goal has been achieved and my writing has flourished from it.
I hired Jake Clarke, from Seattle, for my book's artwork and he has already produced my cover idea as well as a publishing logo for my books. Working with Jake, I was able to produce the cover I wanted, showcasing my story in an eye catching piece. I think you'll agree it jumps out at you. Check out more of Jake's work at http://www.jcalebdesign.com/. He has also produced sketches for the interior of the book, helping to bring it more to life.
To bring my words and grammar up to standard, I took on the services of Caroline Orr to work through the final drafts of Crescendo! She has brought experience and a clinical eye to the piece, assuring it is fit to be read by the multitude of different English speaking countries. Caroline has a terrific knack of interrogating the writing while keeping my style. Check out her website here http://www.orreditorial.com/.
"Crescendo!" is the tale of how we respond to darkness. Do we embrace it and try to wonder and steal from it. Or do we run from it, happy to keep it at a distance. Kirkgordon, a methodical, former bodyguard is reunited with Austerley, Professor of the Occult and delver into all things mysterious. Blaming Austerley for his marital problems and nightmare episodes, Kirkgordon finds himself teamed up with this shambling hulk to recover a dark music manuscript which can open up a portal for unimaginable horror to stalk this earth. Kirkgordon's pity for the obsessive Austerley is pushed to the limit and his creative thinking is stretched to the full in this wild romp across the globe, culminating in an unholy raising of an Elder being.
An 800 year old ice maiden, in dark leathers with a white hot staff and jet black wings, joins the hunt to provide the lid on a slapstick threesome. With the finest of Her Majesty's Secret Agents, a three headed dragon and mutated islanders a-plenty, "Crescendo!" leaps from the USA to Russia, from Ireland to the Islands of Scotland. Whether you seek to understand the weird evil or destroy it, you'll never see the darkness in the same light again.
The final edit for the manuscript is finished and the final formatting will taking place. Crescendo! will be released as an eBook on Amazon, Smashwords and other retail outlets, and also as a hardback (which will include the prelude "Footsteps" as an added extra) and as a paperback option (Amazon).
In order to promote the book, I have decided to use the following methods of publicity
1.A Goodreads Give-away.
2.A give-away on my website in return for signing up to my newsletter about future releases.
3.A public book launch in my home area.
4.Promotion on local radio (including a entire show involving the book).
5.On line readings
6.Achieving 50 reviews on reviewers sites.
7.Twitter and Facebook information blasts. I have been building my profile on these tools steadily over the last year.
8.Competitions for t-shirts and bookmarks bearing the Crescendo! logo.
9.The prelude for Crescendo, a short story entitled "Footsteps" will be available for download at Wattpad, Smashwords, Amazon and on my website at no cost.
With the sales generated I will be able to invest in my second book in the series which has already been written under the working title, "The Darkness at Dillingham". In all, my business plan is to release four books a year, using the Carpetless label and encompassing fantasy, adventure and even a bit of romance. Included for your perusal is the first five chapters of Crescendo! and the short story Footsteps. Read it and believe in it. Help me get my work out to a wider audience and help me kick-start my writing journey.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is simply to put Crescendo! on the shelf at the correct time. The editing process is almost complete and the cover drawn. A timescale of late November for release is sensible but keeping all the plates spinning will be the challenge. I expect to have the book out on time but envisage that if production delays happen it should not take us past December in the worst case scenario.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
