Twists and Tales is a hilariously original story-telling game, created by children and young people from Grimm & Co. Full of prodigious prompts to unleash your imagination and get your creativity cogs spinning, Twists and Tales will inspire you to open your mind and thrill the world with stories and wonder. With your support, we can bring this project to life and share this brilliant game with a wider audience.
Stuck for ideas? Never fear, we have a plethora of cards to get you started! How about a tale about a smartly-dressed business shark who hates losing money? Or two pieces of luggage who fall in love at the airport but get separated on the conveyor belt? Or an astro-horse and an astro-donkey, locked in an eternal conflict over a pleasant patch of grass?
What is Twists and Tales, and why do we want to make it?
Twists and Tales is a game that inspires players to invent and tell stories. It has been created by 19 young people who attend free weekly writing workshops at Grimm & Co, the inspirational children’s writing charity.
Twists and Tales contains 200 unique cards, each featuring an original and unusual creative idea created by the game’s young makers. These cards come in four different categories: characters; settings; objects; and story starters. Players can use these cards to help tell wild tales in many different, exciting ways.

The children and young people who created the game have designed it to be played in a huge variety of ways: by yourself or with others; competitively or collaboratively; by telling stories out loud, or by writing or drawing them. Their aim was to make Twists and Tales accessible to as many different people as possible, taking the scariness out of having to come up with stories on the spot and enabling anyone to be able to spin a tall tale!

What is Grimm & Co?
Grimm & Co is Yorkshire’s only Apothecary to the Magical, and has been serving up wild schemes, evil plots, and kitchenware since 1148. Our apothecary became visible to humans in February 2016, and since then we have been welcoming both mortals and magicals into our stunning shop in the heart of Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
But as well as selling potions, fairy dust, and giant’s belly button cleaners, hidden beneath the broomsticks is a secret door, which only opens to those with a working imagination. Behind this is another world: our Writer’s Pad, where children and young people can take part in exciting, immersive, and free workshops that aim to unleash imaginations, build confidence and self esteem, and develop communication and literacy skills.
Our weekly Saturday Club has been running since November 2017. Every Saturday morning, a group of children and young meet to take part in innovative, immersive, free and fun workshops.

Risks and challenges
We have allowed extra time for the production of the game to ensure that we will be able to deliver the rewards in time for Christmas presents. We are also developing the artwork now, to ensure that it is ready in time for the production. However, if gremlins or pixies disrupt the game creation machine, there may be delays that mean we will not be able to get out in time for Christmas. If that happens, it will be a great start to 2020 when it arrives! And don't worry, your rewards of Grimm & Co products (Grimm Goody/baddy bag), literary works of genius, stickers, smiling donkey and warm fuzzy feeling will definitely be with you for Christmas.
This is our first Kickstarter appeal, but Grimm & Co knows the value of having a tangible and exciting goal to help motivate children and young people’s writing. This means that we have worked with our young writers to help them create and produce a multitude of outputs: books, games, comics, scripts, manifestos, films, plays, performances, and much, much more!
