About this project
There is a place where evil calls home. Deep in the foothills of a secluded land stands a castle where creatures of lore and legend reside, and from here they strike out at the world and cause unspeakable terror. For too long the local villagers have lived in the shadow of this place, but no more! A call to arms has been made, and heroes and adventurers from across the land have answered the call! The villagers now come to destroy that which gives evil life, and they cannot be allowed to succeed!
Village Attacks is a cooperative castle defence game for 1-5 players that sees players taking on the roles of the most infamous and feared creatures of folklore and legend! Deep in a remote part of the world, you and your monstrous brethren have taken up residence in an immense castle in the foothills of lands where most fear to tread. But the local village has had enough of the evil that lies at its door and has decided to lay siege to the castle in an effort to drive you out and destroy whatever ties you to this world.

The villagers are controlled by the game itself, making Village Attacks a completely cooperative experience. The villagers may be weak, but they are not alone! News of your malevolent presence has spread far and wide; hunters and heroes have come from all corners of the globe to vanquish you! Some have come for the fame, others for the glory, but they share a single goal; your doom!
The castle interior is constructed using a modular tile system made up from beautifully illustrated game tiles that allow for near limitless combinations and layouts. The villagers will attempt to reach the heart of the castle and destroy it, but they must be stopped! Only by slaying enough villagers and breaking their morale will you be able to drive them from your home for good.
The entire village is at your gates! From lowly peasants to seasoned hunters, all have come to see to your downfall! Even great and renowned heroes from across the land have answered the call.
Castle defence is the fundamental framework of Village Attacks, but it really is just the beginning. Missions in Village Attacks are played in two ways; either in a classic castle defence styled game where waves of enemies are attempting to destroy the Castle Heart, or as stories that feature a myriad of interesting special conditions and objectives. Objectives will require monsters to complete a set of tasks outside of defending the castle, like summoning monsters, barricading spawn points as they open up on the map and rescuing fellow monsters that the Villagers have captured and are trying to leave the castle with! “Stories” will be multiple mission campaigns that are linked together through a narrative. Actions in previous missions will have an effect on the conditions and requirements of later missions in the story.
Village Attacks uses custom dice to control the outcome of your turn. Dice results can be used to move your monster, activate your abilities, purchase traps, defend yourself from incoming attacks and even stored for the next round.
Each monster possesses their own unique abilities that they are able to level up by slaying villagers and completing objectives. Monsters are categorised into types, which can affect how they interact with the enemy forces. Hunters and Town Heroes deal extra damage to monsters that match their types, creating another level of strategy and planning.
The subject matter of Villager Attacks has been painstakingly researched, and all of the creatures are from rich and interesting tales from antiquity. From well known classics such as Vampires and Banshees, to more obscure yet equally fascinating legends such as Vodayanoys and Djinns- all of these are brought to life in the world of Village Attacks. Monster dashboards contain the tales of each fabled creature, and even elements of game play have been inspired by the stories that surround these fabled monsters.

All of out miniatures are 35mm scale and mass produced from high quality PVC plastics which is the same as our previous Kickstarter Endure the Stars.

Grimlord Games is an independent developer of strategic table-top board games based in the UK that prides itself on excellent customer service and even better games.
Started by two friends who met travelling the world, the company was born out of a mutual passion for all things gaming, alongside a handful of ideas.
Our goal is simple; make games that we would like to play, to the best standard of quality possible.

Ever since purchasing a Super Nintendo with money raised from an impromptu family boot sale (garage sale if you’re not British) Adam has been a fan of gaming in all of its forms. Basically if it involves rolling dice or a controller then you have his interest. He is responsible for the creative output at Grimlord Games, so whether it’s the rules of the game or the story of the universe you’re playing in, chances are it spilled out of this guy’s head.

Mike is a serial entrepreneur having set up, run and sold companies in the past. With a background in fine art and sculpture, he has a creative eye and has been an avid player of board games since his 11th birthday when he got his first copy of Milton Bradley's HeroQuest. A Geordie born and bred, he makes sure things run smoothly at Grimlord
Risks and challenges
This is our second Kickstarter, and we managed to deliver our first board game, Endure the Stars, in a reasonable time frame and to an excellent standard. As with all board games there are potential production, shipping and customs delays, but the game is once again being produced by industry veterans Ludofact.
The game is 90% complete, but depending on how many stretch goals are unlocked we will want to make sure that any new ideas added to the game are implemented perfectly before putting into mass production.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
