August 29 - Update on Early Access + Alternative Cover news

Posted by Daniel Fox (Creator)

Hey gang,

We're closing in on final layout for Early Access. It's coming in at a whopping 636 pages! The team made a second pass over the PDF over the weekend. Although we have layout changes to make, we are on track to release it this week. Should anything change, we'll let you know.

Dejan finished both the front and back of the Kickstarter-exclusive book cover! Due to popular demand, we have made the decision to include it on the gatefold cover of the GM screen, too! Take a look here:

For now, we're heading back to our caves to finish out Early Access PDF. Stay tuned!

@Adam Thanks for the response! I figured as much from the ToC posted more recently, but it's good to there that there are indeed no rules hidden in the reference chunks. :)

Any chance of making that cover image available as a wallpaper? Absolutely in love with it ^^

@Raphael Fortunately you won't need to read all of it in order to play. Much of the real estate is taken up by professions, monsters, descriptions, etc. All of it is worth the read (I was very lucky to be a playtester from the core), but if you are wanting to jump straight into the game you can skip a fair amount of it. I would recommend reading the first parts of each chapter, at the least. Then when hitting the professions or magic chapters, reading what particular professions or magic you plan on using. You could also skip a fair amount of the optional rules laid out in the Game master's guide, to incorporate later if desired.

That being said, in down time between sessions I highly recommend reading all of it, I found it vital to fully understand what the game's feel is. @Daniel Fox, please correct me if I am wrong on any of this.

Oh my, what a tome! And that's without illustrations?! Wow.

(How much of that do we have to read before playing? XD)

@Necrozius yeah, it's a monster! Much larger than we expected, but proper layout for print should whittle it down a bit. Plus, we're about to bring onboard another editor to help with the workload. There's a ton of it to do before we go to print, and I feel confident the public will help us find some optimizations.

I used to be on the fence about the cover but not anymore. That cover is wicked!

      Also: 600+ pages!? Wow!!!
