We all have a keyring, if not several. They work pretty well. They're a simple, split, spiral ring. But the ring is hard to open. You have to dig at the edges with your fingernails. This led us to design Keyround, a flat, interlocking key ring that's not only easy to open, but is also beautifully designed.
Where did this idea come from? We make a wide variety of laser-cut bottle openers at this point. A lot of the drop outs from the metal cutting look pretty cool on their own, but they were just going into the scrap bin. Then we realized they'd make decent keychains. In the spirt of doing everything ourselves, we thought, "We can't just put these cutouts on a regular keyring. Can we make something better?" And so, Keyround was born. And it quickly became clear this was a more interesting idea than mere keychains.
Keyround opens easily, but stays closed when it's supposed to. In our 5 months of testing, we've lost no keys. The ends are designed only to open in one plane, and they interlock to avoid anything sliding off accidentally. The patent-pending design is truly unique.
Did we mention Keyrounds are laser cut?! The flat design of Keyround grants us opportunities that no other keyring can. The fine detail of our laser cutter can take full advantage of that flat surface. We've designed a number of different rings, so you can add personality and sophistication to your EDC key ring, without attaching a functionless keychain.
Oh, and they’re made in the USA.
Keyrounds will be made entirely at our workshop in Portland, Maine. Laser-cut from stainless steel, they can withstand the elements.
Help us get the funds to launch another innovative product, once again based on company values that is proving a new way of thinking about manufacturing in America.
Risks and challenges
Everybody says this, including us, but we're confident that we'll be able to turn around rewards quickly and without incident. We're usually able to get close to our projected dates, although some of you will remember our last project did not get so close to the projected dates. The biggest difference this time is that we do not have to use outside vendors for any of the manufacturing processes. Keyround is also a much less complicated project, with fewer moving parts, figuratively and literally. On top of that, we've listed a more conservative amount of time to produce Keyround than previous projects.
There are a relatively small amount of steps to produce Keyround, and they all take place in-house. The equipment that Kickstarter backers have helped us to acquire in past projects has helped us to decrease turnaround times, and that will start paying off on Keyround.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
