About this project
Thanks everyone for making TAGTOOLS a success! We officially past our goal and we're excited to get production rolling! We think you'll love your TAGTOOLS as much as we do!
Michael McCormick posted a nice review on the TAGTOOL PENCIL in comments if you'd like to check it out...
Sometimes, simple user feedback snowballs into your next inspirational project…
We love styluses of all kinds...nice fountain pens, rollerball pens, gel pens, mechanical pencils, digital styluses, brushes and more. We also have a bunch of vocal users of our Dootle Notebook Case for iPads and Writing Notebooks & Notepads who have the same passion. So we sucked up a bunch of their feedback, combined it with a dose of our interests, and started to design our ultimate creators stylus set...a digital stylus + mechanical pencil, a digital stylus + fountain pen, and digital stylus + rollerball pen...each with a single conductive stylus nib and a smooth chrome nude nib for solo analog mode. The Grifiti TAGTOOL Stylus Set is the result. From concept to design and engineering in Montana, California, Wyoming, and Texas to prototypes and tooling in Shenzhen, China, TAGTOOLS is a project gathering steam...
An iPad, an iPhone, and paper notebooks or notepads. We want TAGTOOLS to effectively express the multiple personalities of our passionate users and their need for effortless input...
TAGTOOL Devices, Materials, & Prototypes
A mechanical pencil + digital stylus with replaceable stylus nib and nada nib...this fills a small, but significant product gap in the market and helps make TAGTOOL unique. We love mechanical pencils so we wanted to make the first combo version with a digital stylus and make the nib easy to swap. Of course, some people like switching to pencil only mode so we ship a chrome nude nib, too.
A fountain pen + digital stylus and a rollerball pen + digital stylus with replaceable stylus nibs and chrome nada nibs...TAGTOOL includes the first combination stylus + fountain pen and a matching stylus + rollerball pen to complete the set. We find a certain beauty in the juxtaposition of such a timeless writing implement as a fountain pen with the recently hatched digital stylus nib. Again, the chrome nude nibs offer a simple way to go analog.
Replaceable nibs...digital nibs and chrome nada nibs...we wanted to provide a number of different points so we designed and redesigned and redesigned a set of screw on stylus nibs. They didn't cut it so we axed them from the launch effort. But the basic set up is done as we've made all the stylus nibs easily replaceable with threaded stems. Your feedback here on Kickstarter made it so we're shipping every TAGTOOL with a single capacitive stylus nib and a replacement chrome nude nib. Later this year or early next year, technology permitting, we'll make a suite of artist nibs and a nib jib available to TAGTOOL users.
We really like metal for a whole bunch of reasons so we only offer the TAGTOOL in a velvet satin matte or a gloss black finished solid titanium alloy with polished chrome accents.
We use universally accepted and easy to find replacement cartridges. The pencil uses a standard 0.5 mm graphite. The pens use a ISO standard 0.7mm rollerball point (Parker ink refills are an example) and iridium fine tipped fountain pen nib with standard cartridge replacements.
The conductive stylus nib uses the standard conductive ABS tip that can be detached and replaced when worn. The smooth chrome dome nib has a bunch of fun suggested names from kickstarters...neb, nubbin, nibble, nibbet, nude nid, nada nib...all work for us at describing a simple chrome cap that converts your TAGTOOL to single function analog mode. In addition, we plan on developing a complete set of interchangeable artist nibs as the screen sensitivity and software improves.
We just received our second set of prototypes. Version 3 is starting up as well.
We can't begin to thank you enough for taking the time to check out our project! Every dollar helps us get closer to our project goal so we hope you can find something that tickles your fancy and we can work together to release TAGTOOLS for the world to enjoy...
We're done with much of the foundational work needed to produce TAGTOOLS. The design and engineering is done. We've made initial complete prototypes. We made a bunch of replaceable nibs. We're ready to go to final production tooling. Once the tooling is done and we approve the parts, the first run of TAGTOOLS will be born. We're a small design shop with limited resources so we're looking for help covering tooling costs, a plant visit to Shenzhen, China (which speeds this process up immensely), and for funding the initial production run. That's where we're hoping you and the Kickstarter community join our efforts and help us reach our goal of $30,000.
If we're able to raise the funds, one of us will hop on a flight to Shenzhen to approve final production samples and start production with the intent to ship everyone their TAGTOOLS within 2 months of receiving the funds.
Thanks for checking out TAGTOOLS!
