GRIDIRON #1 a comic book about the Packers & 1920's football
GRIDIRON the comic book series is the true story of the birth of pro football and Curly Lambeau's little underdog team.
Our comic book GRIDIRON # 1 is done. Now we need the funds to print the comic and distribute it. We are going to print it in Wisconsin then get it to comic book stores and interested venders throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest. The story is about all the little teams that came and went with a focus on the key survivors, Lambeau's Packers, Halas' Bears, Mara's Giants. The 1920's was a time of pass the hat football, where men played for the love of the game. This comic book is a passion of mine. This is the first in a series of seven. Our first planned print run is ten thousand copies. I plan to be signing the comics at comic book stores, and various venders in Wisconsin, the Midwest, California, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Florida and then in certain cities in the Southeast and east coast.
To my knowledge there has never been a true life comic book or comic book series about the early years of pro football, so we are making sports history with our publication. What makes the story of the early years of pro football important is that it is a positive story about little teams in little towns going up against teams from the major cities. In the beginning pro football was a blue collar sport, it didn't get the respect of college football. Still these early pro football players and team owners persisted and while many teams fell by the wayside, the teams with the most fan support survived. The men behind the teams such as George Halas of the Bears and Earl Louis "Curly" Lambeau of the Packers were shrew businessmen during the week and sports warriors on Sunday.
