About this project
The creators of numerous successful Kickstarters, including Four Tribes, Dig Down Dwarf, and Of Dungeons Deep!, bring you a new and exciting game that uses dice to actually build trains!
In Trainmaker, you will step back in time to the Old West to roll the custom-molded railroad dice and begin building a train to meet the needs of the available Station Cards. Every train has to start with an engine and a train car. Will you take it easy and make a small train, or push your luck and reroll the dice to build a mighty train? Choose carefully, because if you can’t add to your train after rolling or finish the train with a caboose, you derail, and your turn ends! More details in the Overview Section.
Trainmaker is designed by Chris Leder, who is quickly moving up the ranks in the industry with his hit game Roll For It! by Calliope Games and his upcoming City of Gears by Arcane Wonders.
Why Pledge Now?
Discount - By backing Trainmaker you will get your copy at a nice discount. The MSRP for Trainmaker will be $25, plus you are getting a $7 shipping credit (Free Shipping within the U.S.). That means that by pledging now, you will save more than 35%.
Backers First - We have made it a priority in the past, and will continue to in the future, to ship games to backers before we open up sales to the public. It is only fair that those that helped make the game happen get their copies first!
Your Feedback - We value your thoughts and ideas. Honestly it is what keeps us coming back to Kickstarter. Getting customer input before manufacturing is an invaluable asset to us!
Stretch Rewards - By backing Trainmaker you will actually affect the outcome of the final game. The more we raise, the more that can be approved or added. See the "Stretch Goals" section for more details.
We Simply Need You - Your continued support will allow us to pay for a large print run of what we feel is a fantastic product and help us ship it all over the world.
Trainmaker will now be manufactured by Panda GM. Panda GM is the industry standard in board game manufacturing. Our choice to use them is a direct reflection of my desire to make Trainmaker the absolute best it can be.
If we fund, we promise that Trainmaker will be a thrilling and rewarding experience for you and your family and friends. However, if we overfund, we will be able to expand the game in both quality and quantity. You see, the more we raise, the more units we will be able to manufacture. This equates to a lower unit cost. These savings WILL be added back into the game in the form of additional content and better-quality components. Below are these additional goals and rewards:
All Aboard is a quick solo game designed by Chris Leder. It is played with the train meeples and dice from the game. Chris is known for his one card game designs as he had a successful one released with Roll For It! last year.
Lawmen vs Robbers is a two-player game designed by Jonathan Gilmour, the designer behind the hit Dead of Winter. It plays a bit like Liars Dice, but with each player in the role of either Lawman or Robber. Each having their own distinct powers. Will include 2 all new role cards with all new artwork.
This will include a nice linen finish on the box itself.
Rail Tycoon is a 2-5 player game designed by Stephen Avery, the designer behind the hit Nothing Personal. In Rail Tycoon players will use almost all of the games components in a new way. This is a dice driven and card melding good time! Will include 5 all new tycoon cards with all new artwork.

Trainmaker will mark the second game in our Small Box Series, with the Award-winning Dig Down Dwarf as the first. Our goal is build up a nice library of smaller games with a variety of mechanics and themes that all play big!
Trainmaker is a 2-6 player game that takes roughly 20-30 minutes to play and is enjoyed by players ages 8 and up.
The object of the game is to collect either one of each station type, or to complete your hidden contract. The first player to do so declares victory!
At the beginning of play, each player receives two random Contract Cards. They choose one and then discard the other from the game. This contract is the player's hidden objective for the game and is a separate and secret route to victory.
Then the game begins as players take turns rolling dice in an attempt to secure Station Cards.
Players may go after additional Station Cards on their turn if they are willing to begin a train with two engines instead of one! If they do so, and take a Station Card, they can re-roll all the dice used to create that train and go after another Station Card. It is possible to clear the table of all three available Station Cards on one turn if you are lucky and take a few risks!
Lastly, many of the station cards offer the player "Discard Powers". A player may discard an owned Station Card during their own turn to invoke a special "one time" power like re-rolling all their dice, or setting a die to a particular side. These powers offer the player a way to take further risks and make more choices during play in order to win.
Above are some pictures of the prototype of the box from Lyris Laser Studio. As you can see the craftsmanship is very nice! The picture in the bottom-left illustrates one of our "small box series" games fitting perfectly into the box with plenty of room for goodies!
What is the Outlaws Expansion?
The Outlaws expansion introduces 3 bandits to the Station Cards deck. These jerks spend a round robbing players of one of their dice if they happen to roll the train car the outlaw wants to rob! But to counter this, 6 new Station Cards are added and each has the passive U.S. Marshal ability to protect the player from the bandits. The bandits are smart enough to move on to easier prey.
Want to customize your pledge? You may add on any of the following items to your pledge by simply increasing your pledge amount by the dollar amount indicated next to each item. Example: You have pledged at the $46 level, but want to add two roll-up game mats. Simply add $36 to your pledge for a total of $82. (46 + 18 + 18 = 82). Worldwide Shipping is included in these prices!
YOU MUST BE A BACKER AT THE $20 LEVEL OR HIGHER TO ADD-ON ANY ITEMS! THE AMOUNT OF AN ADD-ON MUST BE ADDED TO YOUR PLEDGE BEFORE THE KICKSTARTER ENDS! THANKS.
We will gather information from you during the survey in regards to which items you pledged extra for.

The cost of shipping Trainmaker is factored into the pledge levels for U.S. Backers. I wanted to explain the shipping costs to everyone, so that you can see exactly where the numbers came from. Below is a nice chart that shows the dollar amount you need to add to your pledge depending on where you live and the shipping credit that is applied at each level. Whatever the cost is to ship within the U.S. becomes a credit that is applied to Canadian and International shipping. Example: It costs $7 to ship one copy of the game within the U.S. and it costs $15 to ship the same package to Canada, so $7 is taken off the cost for Canadian Backers, thus you only have to pay $8 and not the full $15.
Risks and challenges
Our goal is to make a quality product and we understand the challenges of doing so. Our focus is to stay engaged with both our manufacturers and backers to keep everyone on the same page and informed. An informed backer is a happy backer.
If challenges arise, we will hit them head on. Sometimes an issue can cause a delay, and while delays are typically avoided, producing the the best product is always our end goal. Again, open communication with our backers is key.
All fulfillment will be done in house via the use of USPS. We have our quotes from manufacturers in hand and all artwork is close to complete.
We also have experience with Kickstarter, having run 7 successful campaigns for Plague The Card Game, Zogar's Gaze, Tasnia, Neptune, Four Tribes, Dig Down Dwarf, and Of Dungeons Deep! We feel that this experience gives us a good advantage if and when any issues arise.
All of our previous projects have been shipped to backers with the exception of Of Dungeons Deep!, which is not due until late spring/early summer. Of the six projects we have delivered, four were early or on time, and only two had a minor delay. Again, we always keep an open line of communication with our backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
