I'm a photographer based out of Los Angeles, CA and my mission with my H U M A N project is to showcase diversity in fine art portrait and nude photography. Our bodies are a canvas and I love to photograph and represent people of different race, culture, skin, hair and body types and sexual preference, creating art to showcase as many different people as I can.
I feel it is important to expand the definition of what is considered beautiful so I am producing my first solo photography exhibit in the Mid City district of L.A. called Only HUMAN. This Kickstarter is to help with cost of printing, framing, gallery and show cost and production of my coffee table book for book signing at this event. This will be a solo show of my work to showcase models of diversity and bringing diversity in fine art photography. It is very difficult to curate and edit down my own work but I want to show my work how I would love people to see it and understand it to be. This is my opportunity to put my best work out there. But it is a dueling task to choose what I feel is my best representation when I have over 15 years of work. That is why I created the coffee table book, so I would have a much larger canvas to display my photography. The gallery exhibit will have 25 pieces and the coffee table book will be 220 pages. This will give my audience a large spectrum of my work. I have photographed models of many different nationalities and complexions, fashion model body types to over 300 confident pounds, bald to long, back length hair, straight, bi or gay or models with different skin conditions like albinism, alopecia or vitiligo.
This exhibit will take place at the Exhibit A gallery on October 14th, 2019, my birthday. It will also have an ongoing video throughout the show so there will be plenty of visuals going on through the night.
The book itself will be broken into 3 parts: Only H U M A N, H U M A N nature and It's not all black and white. Through Kickstarter, this will be your opportunity to pre-order your book no matter where you are. So for those, who are not in L.A. and can not make it to the exhibit/book signing, please order your signed copy, have it shipped directly to you but still help make the exhibit come alive. The book will be filled with some of my best work, with plenty of never seen before images and will be the perfect collector's item for art portrait and nude photography lovers. It will be a compilation of my best images of the past 15 years.
I am offering different levels of pledges with pre orders of the book to different size signed prints. I also hope that those who are in Los Angeles on October 14th, will come by to support the event. For those who purchase prints, I will let you decide which image you would likes as an art print by visiting my website, www.gregoryprescott.net or from my IG: gregoryprescott. All prints will be signed on archival paper. The photo 5x7 postcards will be of my Magnolia image at the top of the page.
So if you would love to see this exhibit of fine art photography come to life, along with the 220 page coffee table book, please support. I feel that giving light to diversity in fine art is important. Giving life to any art form is important. It helps us to feel good about ourselves, whomever we are to see others like ourselves, as works of art. Diversity matters. Art in photography matters. Feeling comfortable in our skin matters. We all, as humans matter. This show is long overdue so help me make it happen.
Thank you for all of your support. I do feel this exhibit is well needed; especially in today's society and racial and judgmental climate and its an opportunity to showcase my photography in L.A. We all deserve to be loved and appreciated for who we are, in our skin and I hope that my art and this show and book sends out this message and people can truly see the beauty in others. I stripped my models down to exhibit our rawness, our beauty and pride in who we are. I very much appreciate the courage and confidence in all of my models to share their bodies for this project and I hope to make them all proud through my art and what it represents. And most importantly I hope to open the mind of others in accepting others and who they are. At the end of the day, we are all H U M A N.
Risks and challenges
Creating a quality book is the major cost of this project. I want to deliver what my collectors would expect. The majority of cost will be for book production and framing of the artwork in the exhibit.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
