About

Make sure the volume is turned up on the video!

We need your help to design 2014's beautiful Green Lane Diary magazine, which forms the core of this incredible environmental program! We need funds to develop the educational content for the magazine, the beautiful design and illustrations for the magazine which capture kid's hearts and imaginations, and web tools that support the program. The Green Lane Diary program is aligned to the national curriculum for years 3-7 and is known and loved by schools all across Australia.

Designed by industry experts and education specialists, the diary empowers children to learn about the environment through positive action at home, at school and in the community.

The Green Lane Diary magazine focuses on 10 weeks of education. Each week focuses on a different topic, like water, waste, energy and biodiversity and young people turn this 10 weeks of discovery into practical actions. They record their environmental actions in a daily diary, or through photos and videos. At the end of the program, Green Cross Australia uses these measures to review all the wonderful actions taken by students and classes across Australia, to award them at the Green Lane Awards.

In the past, Green Cross Australia has made it possible for over 116,000 students from over 600 schools to be a part of this terrific program. But this year, we need your help because in this day of economic priorities, grants have run dry.

The lovely Costa from Gardening Australia understands how precious and high impact this program is, so he's bringing his enthusiasm and support to help us inspire to give generously!

The 2014 Green Lane Diary magazine is being written by a team of passionate environmental educators and its contents will link into the whole universe of green school activity offered by Australian NGO's, research organisations and education agencies. Green Cross Australia needs $17,000 to get the Green Lane Diary magazine created, designed and illustrated.

Risks and challenges

We are raising money for the design, content creation and editorial production of the Green Lane Diary magazine. Unfortunately because there is a minimum cost of developing Green Lane Diary to our award-winning standard, if we do not raise enough (to cover our $17,000 target) we may not be able to develop the digital version of the 2014 Diary to a stage where we can later print the magazine.

If that is the case, we will refresh 2013 materials so schools and students can still access last year's program during 2014.

After the diary is produced, we still will have the challenge of reaching out to as many schools as possible so we can grow our student participation levels in 2014 to reach our goal of 50,000 students this year. Already 116,000 students, hundreds of teachers and thousands of parents have lived and loved this program. With your help we are putting ourselves out there to meet the big challenge of boosting participation even further!
