(Special thanks to Mike Kravinsky from NextNik.com for the use of excerpts from his video, "Alt-Classical", which features Great Noise Ensemble as well as other new music groups. Check out Nextnik for stories or people looking for and moving on to the next big thing!)
"Classical" music doesn't just extend to the tried and true warhorses like Beethoven, Brahms, and Bruckner: there are composers doing amazing and timeless work RIGHT. NOW. that need to be heard and promoted, whose music has moved us and inspired us to be more passionate, more creative, and more thoughtfully artistic than we've ever been before. This project's title conveys that idea perfectly, that it's up to us to champion these new stars and make sure their music is heard.
WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO: Great Noise Ensemble is looking for fellow revolutionaries to help support our first commercial release-- all in-house, all grass roots, by our people for all people. GNE was founded to promote and perform works that are so new the ink's still wet, and in our first six seasons of performance we've found some gems that have really made a splash with our performers and our fans by up and coming composers D.J. Sparr, Marc Mellits, Rob Paterson, and our own Armando Bayolo.
WHAT WE NEED TO DO IT: We need to raise $12,000 to cover production and personnel costs for the new album so we can get rolling on the recording. The funds will help us secure a space, an engineer, and pay our performers and composers to get the ball rolling.
WHY SHOULD YOU HELP? Since 2005 we've been working hard to promote and perform new music by new artists whose voices need to be heard, and this recording is going to be a major step in the process of spreading that music to a wider audience and making sure GNE has the means of continuing that mission.
IS MY DONATION TAX-DEDUCTIBLE? Absolutely!!! Great Noise Ensemble is a 501(c)3 non-profit group and as such, your donations are tax deductible! So donate already!
WHAT IF IT DOESN'T GET FUNDED? If we don't reach our goal, you don't have to pay and don't get your rewards in return. More importantly though, if we don't reach our goal, this music will have to sit on a shelf, unheard, for a lot longer until we can scrape together the means to make the recording happen. If each one of our fans pitches in the cost of a couple of concert tickets, we'd be over our goal in no time, and at that price you're already on your way to great rewards in return (look over in the right-hand column! ------>> ) Don't let this opportunity to support the present and future of new music go to waste!
WHAT IF WE MEET OUR GOAL? If we meet our goal, we'll immediately get started on setting up the recording dates, and will of course keep you all posted in the process. We're aiming for a release date during our 2011-2012 season. If we raise more money than we need, it will immediately be rolled over into our next recording project so we can keep supporting the composers that inspire us, and you.
