About

Would you survive the thrills, chills, and deadly spills of a horror movie? Come step into the fortuneteller’s parlor and discover what the fates have in store for you.

I Survived a Horror Movie is a round based elimination card game, with the simple goal to be the last one standing. The only way to do this is by avoiding the killer card. But which card is the killer card? That’s the secret: it changes every round and no one knows which card it is until it’s too late!

As for the set up for each round, the deck is shuffled and one card is randomly selected and, without looking at it, set aside. This card is the “Killer.” The remaining cards are dealt out as evenly as possible.

After all the cards are passed out, players find any matched cards in their own hand and place them face down in front of them. These cards are not used for the round.

At this point, the round officially starts. Each player selects a card from their hand and places it face down in front of them. After everyone has selected a card, all players reveal their card at the same time.

If there is a match, the “Match Effect” on the paired cards is triggered and resolved before proceeding. At this point, the remaining cards in play are examined and the player whose card’s character’s name comes first in the alphabet (no two have the same first letter) claims all the remaining cards and gets to try to make matches with the cards still in their hand. Matches made by this player also trigger the “Match Effect” on the cards, which must be resolved before continuing. If there are no matches then the player with the card whose character comes first alphabetically takes all the played cards into their hand and looks for matches, playing them down and triggering their effects. After all “Match effects” are resolved, players select a new card and play face down again, resuming the round.

When one player is down to one card they call out "FOUND THE EXIT" signifying the round could be over. However play continues until one player is out of cards.

Starting from that player and moving clockwise (left), each player looks at the “Killer” card that was set aside at the beginning of the game. If it matches a card in a player’s hand then that player has perished at that monster’s hand and is out of the game. All the cards but the “Killer” pair are put back into the deck and shuffled, and a new round begins. Rounds are repeated until one player is left and that player has “Survived a Horror Movie” and is declared the winner.

We plan to start printing the games as soon as we reach our pledge goal, as this will allow us to start shipping batches on the 8th of December and beat the holiday shipping rush to get the games to their new homes for Christmas this year.

My name is Mitch Watterson, and I enjoy all kinds of board, dice, and card games! I am currently in college taking courses in Parks and Recreation at Utah State University. Games are my favorite type of recreation and I feel are an underutilized type of recreational and leisure activities. I am using this game to help start a company creating and selling card games. The funds will also go to finishing school and funding more games for the company I am creating.

To Be Announced, Its going to be good!

Risks and challenges

The biggest risk is running into a printing error when the cards are printed, but this would only cause a delay in shipping, making it a little tricker to get the games to their new homes by Christmas. If this were to happen and printing was delayed, we would be sure to notify supporters as soon as the issue was discovered and work to resolve the problem as soon as possible and resume sending the games. This scenario would just mean it might take an extra week for supporters to get their games.

This project itself is part of a challenge issued by the Entrepreneurship Club for my university, where teams submitted business proposals and 20 teams were selected and given $100 dollars to start their business. This project is one of the 20 selected. I would like to have a chance to have this project shine and grow into a business that can give back.
