Diagnosed with a progressive illness at the time of her daughter's birth, Anna made the decision to give her daughter, Una, up for adoption when she was just 2 weeks old. Twenty-seven years later, Anna feels compelled to contact Una in order to pass on her inheritance, "some good and some not so good."  Anna's illness has begun to affect her daily function. She assumes her daughter was raised by the privileged family who adopted her, but soon discovers a very different story.

Set in the beautiful isolation of a farmhouse in Northwest Connecticut, Anna and Una's short time together highlights their differences as well as the electrical/chemical/spiritual current that has always connected them--an unbreakable bond that can either be acknowledged or dismissed.

The reference to the Silver Stream comes from the way my mother talked about the thin line between life and death. The last year of her life, I was her caretaker, and I felt our deep bond.

Then I met a woman who was adopted and who performed a solo show about meeting her biological mother.  Surprisingly, the meeting filled her with rage.  Afterward, she felt emotionally zapped.  She could no longer put her mother back into the category in which she had kept her for so many years.  It felt in the end like the request and meeting had been an invasion of sorts.

Then one day, my good friends invited me to a farmhouse that they rented as a space for artists to come and stay and work on their projects.  The house, surrounded by woods, just happened to have a small lake with very clear, clean water.  Almost like a silver stream.

My story emanated from that setting, as if the house were a character, too, holding my story so I could write it.  In the end, the story is the house and me, exploring how life is right underneath us, challenging us to bond and knit together, to transform into our next possibility with fullness and grace.  Leading with the heart, holding onto darkness, trusting that together there will be transformation.

She has received several distinctions and awards for her work. Cynthia Dillon - Screenplay Consultant & Acting Coach

Cynthia Dillon is thrilled to be assisting with this fierce and tender story and its amazing team. With 20 years experience teaching acting and directing for the stage, Cynthia has worked as a dramaturge and/or director with numerous playwrights; this is her first work on a film, however. A dream come true, she says! "Although coaching actors in a film is in many ways very different from coaching actors for a stage production, the basic process, helping actors to access truth and to communicate that truth to their audience is always the same. Grace has created a beautiful portrait of the mother/daughter bond in unusual circumstances, and we hope that the film will be as meaningful to others as it has been to us."

 Janine Mills - Associate Producer

Janine Mills is an actor and dancer originally from Northern Vermont who has made her home in Brooklyn. Highlights of the past year include the Kiley Ensemble production of Time Stands Still by Donald Margulies, a showcase performance of Poland by John Patrick Shanley, Ailey Extension Voices and Visions Performance Workshop with choreographer Juan Rodriguez, and collaboration on over a dozen presentations with Columbia University MFA directors Katherine Wilkinson and Miriam Grill, which culminated at the end of the fall semester in a public performance of Euripdes' The Bacchae.

Janine is so happy to be working on Silver Stream, because she is inspired by the screenplay and talented team. Having had the good fortune of spending time last summer at the property where the film will be shot, she especially looks forward to the way its woods and lake and stars, its special quiet and stillness, will support the actors and help to tell the story.

Liz Turner - Associate Producer

Liz is an actor (SAG-AFTRA), director, composer and writer. She is passionate about bringing new stories to the stage and screen. Holding a M.M and B.M from the Berklee College of Music, Liz’s acting, film and music career have taken her abroad from Italy to Spain, to Australia to New Zealand and back again to New York. Emory’s most recent short film, "Changing of the Leaves," has played dozens of festivals and received several prestigious awards including "Best Actress" and "Best Student Short Film." Emory is interested in telling stories about complex, fascinating women. She is very excited to edit “Silver Stream,” a film that does just that.

 Amrinder Singh - Line Producer

Amrinder is an actor and writer. He is currently in pre-production for his debut feature film, Stone Catch Fire, which he wrote and will be directing. He served as Technical Director for the recent sold-out show Time Stands Still at The Players Theater in NY, and for the productions of Uncle Vanya and The Bear with the Russian Arts Theater. Kiley Ensemble Artistic Director's Note:

Kiley Ensemble is devoted to supporting, promoting, and deepening the artistic development of actors, directors, and writers in film and on stage.

Collaborating on stories carefully chosen for their potency and value, it strives to bring authentic and challenging portrayals to the audience and introduce a transformative experience to the world we share.

We need your help in order to bring this film to life!

We have set a budget of $8,000 in order to fully pay all those involved for their time and talent, provide transportation, housing, and cover all equipment, location and supplies costs.

There are many reasons to support this effort. If you believe in the transformative power of storytelling and know that a powerful story can change lives, we would love to have you on our side! Thank you for helping us share our original story with the world!

Risks and challenges

We have limited time and resources for this shoot. The weather at our location is questionable in April and will require our flexibility. While we will make every effort to forge ahead no matter what, should the weather present an insurmountable challenge, we will be forced to proceed with an alternate plan. The cast and crew will be living and working in the same setting, requiring those involved to be responsible to the project and each other. We have given careful consideration to how people will be most comfortable in the setting during the four days of the shoot. Finally, we will have someone stationed in New York to shuttle people to the location if needed and/or provide for anything extra we might need at the location. Most importantly, we will not sacrifice the quality of the story and the artistry for any reason. This is the commitment from all involved.
