The modern blanket inspired by active lifestyles and made from materials developed for the outdoor industry.
Rumpl was started by a team of active designers who love the outdoors.
On an ill-fated camping trip in early 2013, we praised our sleeping bags for keeping us warm and comfortable while stranded on the side of the road in sub-zero temperatures. We realized that all the amazing materials used in puffy jackets and sleeping bags could be used in a blanket. When we returned home we set off to create a better blanket for everyday use, paying close attention to comfort and modern design. The deeper we dug into this project, and the more we learned about the capability of the materials we selected, the more we realized how versatile this blanket is: soft, durable, stain and odor resistant.
We encourage you to find your own use.
Our team is a group of active people that work as designers and product engineers. We have over 20 years of experience creating consumer products for major companies, including Mountain Hardware and Marmot. Rumpl is special because it's something we wanted to use in our own lives, so we concentrated on every detail to ensure that the product is designed perfectly.
Our Supplier & Manufacturer:
Our material supplier is the same one who sells to many of the major jacket and sleeping bag brands. The material is made from ultra-fine 20D Ripstop nylon and coated with DWR to repel water, even after many washes.
We have selected a manufacturer that has extensive experience producing premium bedding products for major brands. They are also equipped with the latest machines capable of making our unique patterns and have the know-how to work with our premium materials. Our manufacturer is capable of mass producing this product exactly as we have envisioned it and is able to assure quality control over large orders. Our factory samples are exactly the same as what we will be shipping to our backers, the product is 100% designed and ready to go. Fulfillment will be handled in San Francisco by our team.
1. Keep design at the forefront of every decision.
2. Source only the best materials.
3. A continued focus on improving our product.
4. Promote the pursuit of an active, balanced lifestyle.
Your contribution will allow us to purchase our materials at a bulk rate and meet minimum order quantities at our factory. If we exceed our initial funding goal we will be able to offer more color and styling options to our backers.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have done our best to mitigate the risks and challenges for this project:
• We have several working FACTORY SAMPLES and can proudly state that the product is outstanding.
• Wrapping up a 6 month development process in which we scrutinized material for the perfect combination of durability and feel, as well as the long process of vetting manufacturers with the capability to produce our unique design.
• We've got a production schedule and are confident in our suppliers and vendors for delivering on time.
We do not expect any technical risks, and our team has worked extremely hard to get all the pieces in order before launching this campaign. However, our experience has shown that there are always inherent risks of delay in the process when mass producing anything for the first time.
We assure that we will keep our backers up-to-date on the all the latest news, and will operate as transparently as possible so you can follow us on our journey. The blanket has already been proven in real-life situations such as movie nights in the park, keeping our group warm during a campfire ban in Big Sur, and of course months of rolling around in bed.
No. Unfortunately (as far as we know) we are unable to produce this product in the US at this time without compromising our design. There are two factors involved in our production process that require us to go overseas:
1) Nylon (shell) - We have selected a premium nylon manufacturer that is based in Taiwan and produces technical nylon for large technical apparel companies like Mountain Hardware. After vetting several manufacturers, we believe we've selected one of the best in the business.
2) Production capabilities: The Rumpl Blanket requires large CNC quilting machines to produce our unique stitch patterns, and we need a lot of them in order to meet production demand. Our factory also produces its own high-end blend of insulation on site, so it is never compressed for shipping. This assures that the material will perform at its optimum level of warmth.
Our decision to produce overseas is not a cost savings strategy. We were very particular about the form and function of this product and didn’t want to compromise that at all due to manufacturing restrictions. We'd love to be producing locally, both for carbon footprint as well as production oversight benefits. We simply feel that our vision of the product would suffer from doing so - at least with the manufacturing capabilities we've been able (or unable) to find in the US. If you have any recommendations for finding the exact manufacturer we need here in the US we would love to hear them.
However, Kickstarter does not allow you to select more than one pledge reward. What this means is that you just pledge the amount for as many as you'd like (plus shipping for each item, if you require it.... sorry, this requires some light* math on your end). At the end of the campaign we will send a survey to all our backers and thats when you'll let us know that you've pledged for more than one blanket.
Our blankets get delivered to us individually packaged, so we will be shipping them directly to you in the box in which we receive them. For that reason, each blanket is its own shipping order.
Yes. Please add the specified amount for shipping on all orders to Canada.
At the end of our funding window we will send a survey to all backers asking them for their color selection. We do this at the end so that early backers can get the benefit of additional colors that become available if our stretch-goal funding objectives are met.
Throw: 127cm x 177cm
Twin: 152cm x 203cm
Queen: 223cm x 213cm
King: 259cm x 213cm
For all bed-sized (twin-king) blankets we use 300gsm 3 denier mono-filament nylon.
For the Throw-sized blanket we use 240gsm 3 denier mono-filament nylon.
We designed the home blankets to be comfortable (warm) in chilly home conditions, without using any additional sheets or pajama layers. *Usually* most houses do not get below 50 deg inside, and living in SF we have no shortage of 50deg nights. So far, our testing has shown most people to be quite cozy with the doors and windows wide open.
Our throw blanket is slightly (~20%) less insulated than the bed blankets. This allows it to be compressed a bit smaller when on the go.
These weights do NOT include the stuff sack.
We use a sewn-through construction in all of our blankets so the insulation is sewn into place. This makes the insulation does not migrate at all when its washed.
Bringing on new colors is a factor of our manufacturing costs and we would need an order of magnitude greater to justify producing more colors at this time. If we see the project moving in that direction, we will certainly consider adding more colors as stretch goals.
We have been getting a few requests from people about this. We are finalizing our stuff sack designs as we speak and, based on feedback from all our backers, we know we need to make the twin sized bag portable. its still up in the air if it will be a nylon or a cotton bag (that will be a costing discussion on our end), but we promise to make it appropriate for what people seem to be wanting it for - which is being portable, as far as we can tell.
Our stuff sacks are in their final phase of development so we cant give exact measurements at this time. However, we are currently using an xs stuff sack from a Marmot sleeping bag for our throw-sized prototype. The throw fits in it snuggly and it measures approx 12" x 6.5". The finalized design of the throw sack will likely be in this ballpark.
