UPDATE: choose 40mm or 42mm case size at end of campaign!
The PETROL takes design cues from iconic racing watches of the 60s and 70s. From there, we’ve chosen high quality modern components that ensure its accuracy and dependability. Thus creating the perfect blend between vintage design and modern performance.
Limited edition: only 1,500 will be produced, each individually engraved with its serial number so no two are alike. Additionally, each watch comes in a real leather case designed to fit your favorite pair of sunglasses.
Three colors to choose from: Black, Blue or Red. A survey will be sent at the end of the campaign, and you'll select your color then.
“Goodspeed” is a term you'd tell someone preparing to embark on a journey or an adventure. Maybe today’s journey involves a spirited drive through Topanga Canyon. Or maybe it’s just a day of conference calls. Either way, make sure your watch reflects your passions.
Great care was taken in choosing the features and components so that the PETROL could handle anything you can throw at it:
- Stainless 316L high polished case
- Two sizes: choose 40mm or 42mm wide (without crown)
- Seiko VK64 Mecha-Quartz movement with Chronograph
- Domed Sapphire crystal is highly scratch resistant and includes anti-reflective coating
- Waterproof to 10 Atmospheres/100 meters/330 feet (i.e. you can wear it swimming)

- Caseback is engraved with its serial number out of the 1,500 produced
- Includes a genuine leather case large enough to hold your sunglasses
Goodspeed Watches is committed to producing timepieces that take their inspiration from the era of auto racing when driving was still an analog experience that required skill and style. We combine that vintage style with the latest in watchmaking technology so every watch is the perfect blend between style and performance. We know you have a choice when it comes to the watch on your wrist, choose a watch that reflects your passions.
Why'd you start Goodspeed?
During the 1960s and 70s there were a lot of iconic watches made as brands began making timepieces with automotive racing as their focus. But the problem is either, their condition is suspect after decades of abuse, or the ones in mint condition cost thousands of dollars. The PETROL was designed with this in mind; a watch packed with the best modern components, iconic vintage style at an affordable price. The PETROL is the first watch from the company, but other vintage inspired chronographs can be expected from this new microbrand.
We've received some amazing praise from some of the most informative watch blogs and websites out there:
"At first glance, the Petrol oozes a vintage chronograph vibe. The color combination of this piece, along with the non-circular subdials, gives a Heuer-esque feel that screams “racing watch”. Goodspeed has created a watch with a beautifully executed design, impressive finish, and managed to keep it at an impressively competitive price of $169. Any racing, motorsport, or chronograph loving watch enthusiast should give this one a try." -- Affordable Wrist Time
"The movement Goodspeed decided to use is a common one amongst microbrand chronographs, for good reason. The Seiko VK64 Meca-Quartz movement allows us to get a feel for a real mechanical chronograph combined with the superb accuracy of a standard quartz movement. I have reviewed numerous watches using this movement lately, and it is a winner in my book.
"I have seen other brands with the same quality and specifications sell for upwards of $400 USD, Goodspeed is offering a great value proposition." -- Watch Addict
"Goodspeed has done an excellent job on their debut model. It hits all the right notes and manages to pull it off for a crazy low price. The full $300 retail price is not at all out of line, but Early Bird rewards starting at $169 are downright irresistible. " -- The Time Bum
Video Review by Watch Addiction:
The large red second hand with filled lume triangular end measures seconds lapsed when the chrono is started. The left subdial registers minutes lapsed. And the right subdial displays the 24hr time that corresponds to the current time of day.
With those high contrast red hands on the white and black dial, it's easy to see what time it is or how fast the last lap took. Keep it simple.
Along those lines, it won’t track your steps. Heck, it won’t even track a second time zone. The PETROL is simply a well-made chronograph with a vintage inspired design and the internals to keep accurate time year after year. Two sizes: 40mm and 42 mm wide (without crown), we think these are the perfect sizes for the modern man. Not too big, not too small. The Seiko VK64 Mecha-Quartz movement is a workhorse that gives the reliability of a quartz movement but with the feel of a mechanical one. This is a high end Japanese quartz movement that has been used in watches that retail for over $600.
The rotating tachymeter bezel is unique because most tachymeters have a fixed bezel. Making ours rotate wasn't an accident. It was a throwback to vintage watches steeped in racing history. The rotating tachymeter allows a rally racer or his navigator the ability to calculate average speed over consecutive miles.
A lot of preparation went into creating the PETROL. Taking design cues from a variety of vintage watches, many rough sketches were made until the final product began to emerge. A graphic designer was hired to turn the hand drawn sketches into production quality images. Many more revisions were made until the design of the watch you see here was finalized.
Next, watch manufacturers were interviewed to find one that could take these design requirements and build a high quality watch at an affordable price. The manufacturer chosen has decades of experience building watches for some very reputable companies. The prototypes they've made have impressed everyone that has strapped the PETROL to their wrist.
Every PETROL watch comes in an embossed leather case sized to fit your favorite pair of sunglasses. No more watch cases tossed in a drawer never to be seen again! We could have chosen faux leather but once you feel the Goodspeed leather case in your hands you'll know why we didn't. This was going to be a stretch goal, but we decided everyone should just get one for supporting this campaign!
