American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. is an organization that was created after World War I to provide care and support for mothers who had lost sons or daughters during service in the armed forces. The name originates from the tradition in which families would hang a service flag in the window of their homes; a blue star would signify service members in active duty, a gold star would represent those who had lost their lives in duty.
Most Americans are not familiar with the American Gold Star Mothers organization. In addition, there has been virtually no comprehensive film on these women or their role in American history. They Shall Live will let their voices be heard.
The funds raised here on kickstarter will be crucial to getting this project off the ground and into production. Our campaign to raise money for this film will be multi-faceted, with satellite events being held around Connecticut and around the country; these springboard funds are necessary for us to operate and get us to that point. Please share this project with your friends and family; it is a story in desperate need of telling. Thank you for your support.

For our Kickstarter appeal, we scheduled a shoot with Mary Kight, Connecticut Department Chair of American Gold Star Mothers. Mary became a Gold Star Mother when she lost her son Michael in Vietnam, May 19th, 1967. She graciously allowed us to conduct an interview to hear her story, providing us this footage to put together an appeal to promote our film. Also featured is U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran Alfred Comeau, sharing his experience not only as a veteran, but also reflecting on the loss of a child who serves and the impact it has on the mothers and families of the lost. Below are some screen shots from the above appeal:
