Welcome to the fifth Kickstarter for Golden Goblin Press, and our very first one for a fiction collection. We are very excited for the opportunity to bring you Heroes of Red Hook. So lets tell you about the project!

About the Book -

This is our largest fiction project to date, roughly twice the size of our  previous fiction anthologies;Tales of Cthulhu Invictus and Dread Shadows in Paradise. We estimate the book’s size will be about 100,000 words at completion, and contain seventeen or eighteen stories. It will be offered in digital formats (PDF, ePub, and MOBI), as a standard paperback, and a limited edition hard cover that is exclusive to backers of this Kickstarter. Our goal is to deliver the digital rewards, and hopefully the physical copies as well, in time for the 2016 holiday season (on or around November 24th).

About the Project -

Heroes of Red Hook is a collection of cosmic horror tales taking place during the Jazz Era with a very important focus. The protagonists of this anthology are members of the various under represented demographic in Lovecraftian fiction. Our heroes and heroines are the outsiders who are most often blamed (wrongly so) for the actions of various alien horrors of the mythos. Our stories put the spotlight on ethnic and religious minorities, immigrants, independent free thinking women, those with special needs, and members of the LGBT community. This collection features people struggling to overcome not only the horrors beyond mankind’s understanding, but an oppressive society seeking to deny them basic human rights.

The vast majority of the fans of Cosmic Horror Fiction struggle to reconcile their love for the genre with inherent racism of the original works of its creator, H.P. Lovecraft. Many of us are disturbed that bigots and hateful groups treat Lovecraftian fiction a manifesto to support their racism. They point to stories like The Horror at Red Hook and say, “See there, that is what’s wrong with the world.” They point to places like Brooklyn, and all they see is taint, corruption, and shadows.

We here at Golden Goblin Press reject their message and their ignorance, as we stand up and try to guide our genre towards a more inclusive future.  We see the mixing of races, cultures, genders, and orientations not as a negative, but as mankind’s greatest strength. These are not shadows to be fearful of but our brightest light guiding us to a more enlightened tomorrow. Together we can change the legacy of Lovecraft, from one of blame, fear, and bigotry, into something more representative of our greater humanity. We know that one little book won't solve the problem in our genre, but maybe it can be a nudge in the direction it needs to move coming into the 21st century.

That might be a lot to ask from one book, but those familiar with cosmic horror know all too well the power one little book can sometimes wield.

Our Collection

This collection contains a total of seventeen wonderful stories by some of the best authors writing Cosmic Horror fiction today. Each one has understood their deep responsibility in telling the stories of those who have been treated as little more than scapegoats and villains in this genre and rose proudly to the challenge. They have delivered passionate and inspired stories, which we are honored to offer our backers and share with our community.

She turns to a handsome private eye to find a true medium capable of getting her information from beyond the grave. Blinded by despair, what price will she pay to learn who murdered her lover?

Ivan and the Hurting Doll, by Mercedes M. Yardley - Ivan came to American from Russia as a small boy and worked hard to become a Strong American Man. Add-Ons

To order any add-ons simply pledge the additional cost of the item(s) you wish to receive with to your backer level.  When the backer surveys go out you'll be asked if you ordered any add-on items and to specify which ones.  For example: A Hell's Kitchen level backer ($30) who adds on Dread Shadows in Paradise ($15) would pledge $45.

Tales of Cthulhu Invictus ($15; Physical Paperback & PDF/ePub/MOBI copy)- Long before ivy grew on the walls of Miskatonic University, or the Deep Ones first came to Innsmouth, centuries before the mad Arab penned the dreaded Necronomicon, the malevolent powers of the Cthulhu Mythos plagued mankind. During the Age of the Antonines (96 AD–192 AD), when the Roman Empire was at the peak of its power, dark and unknowable forces were at work. Ancient wizards sought ways to cheat death, explorers stumbled on the remnants of alien civilizations, foul cults practiced unholy rites, and inhuman creatures sought to mix their blood with ours.

On behalf of everyone here at Golden Goblin Press, thank you for your time, consideration, and generous support.

Risks and challenges

We face many of the same risks and challenges most Kickstarters do. We're working hard to minimize most of these risks before we launch the campaign. To deal with the unforeseen challenges we intend to be versatile and pro-active. We learned a lot from our four previous kickstarter and are happy with how those projects turned out. We have every intention to make this project even more successful by drawing upon that newly found knowledge and experience.
