A little info about me and the book...
My name is Jon and I go by the pseudonym GODSTEETH Illustration when sharing my artwork online. I work mainly as a freelance Illustrator and Print Maker.
The Journey of Teddy and Marla is a fully illustrated children's book. It follows a lost girl, Marla, as she searches for a way back home. The book will also feature my childhood kitten, Teddy, who accompanies Marla throughout her journey.
The book will include 60 fully illustrated pages, with the possibility of more pages to be added later in the campaign. It will explore themes of loss and grief with a subtle approach, whilst maintaining an uplifting narrative.
A little info about Teddy...
In many ways this is a very personal project for me. Teddy was my favourite childhood kitten and he sadly died whilst he was still a little baby. On the evening of his demise, my mother had called me downstairs so I could spend time with my him in what were to be his final hours. He passed away peacefully in my hands. I buried him in my front garden, dressing him inside his favourite red sock as if he was in a sleeping bag.
Although my story may be considered a sad one, I wanted to use that energy to channel something positive from it whilst honouring Teddy's memory and immortalising him within my book.

The Journey of Teddy and Marla will contain at least 60 hand drawn pen and ink illustrations. Original pages from the book will be available to purchase in certain reward bundles. The pages you receive will be selected at random. All pages are drawn with brush pens on bristol board.
A Limited Edition hand printed T-shirt will be available for purchase through certain bundles in the campaign. I'm a self-taught screen printer and have been successfully producing and selling t-shirts for over 3 years. The t-shirt is available in many sizes and will be printed using a black water-based ink. I only ever print on ethically produced t-shirts supplied by Continental. They're made from 100% cotton and are fair trade t-shirts. The final t-shirt colour may vary slightly from the image shown, depending on my supplier's stock levels. I do have fairly large amounts of blank stock already, but I will keep people posted on this as the campaign progresses.
Where I'm at with the project so far...
I'm roughly 50% in to completing the book which is why I've chosen to have the campaign open for 28 days. This should give me ample time to finish drawing the remaining pages and compile them all so I can send the final version to my printers. I ask for your help with the printing costs.
For transparency, I aim to get 500 copies of this book made. I will need to raise the funds quoted in order to achieve this. Any support is appreciated. Shares on social media, good old fashioned word of mouth... the more support I receive, the bigger the chance I can get this project launched.
Previously related projects...
I've self-published two smaller books in the past year. Furthermore, I screen printed and sold over 300 Ltd Edition T-shirts and Sweaters featuring Teddy in January this year. Some photos of the past related projects are shown below.
When will payment be taken?
Please remember that payment will be taken at the end of the campaign, so please keep this in mind! Please make sure you account for this in your monthly budget otherwise your payment will decline. I wouldn't want you to miss out.
Will there be stretch goals?
Indeed! I have a few planned but let's see if we can get this off the ground first.
Acknowledgements and further links to my work
The song used in the project video is called 'Snowdonia' and is performed by Mechanical Owl. Permission for use was kindly given and I can't thank Mike enough! Lovely track.
Risks and challenges
Although this is my first Kickstarter project, I have been successfully producing and selling artwork and bespoke merchandise to a growing customer base for over 6 years.
I have full confidence in my abilities since I have been working within these fields for many years now. I usually screen print t-shirts and other products on a weekly basis and I draw almost every day. I have been planning this particular project for at least 6 months. Full communication will be upheld throughout and following the duration of this project.
