Go Ahead, Stop and Pee: A Guide to Running During Pregnancy and Postpartum

Hi! We are Kate and Blair, a team of physical therapists who treat runners and active women. Kate specializes in the treatment of runners and Blair specializes in pre- and postnatal health and pelvic floor dysfunction. More importantly, we are moms and we are runners. We have been through the ups and downs of pregnancy and have had all the experiences of not recognizing our bodies - in shape, size and performance. 

We also were able to stay active during our pregnancies (including some running) and get back to running and all the activities we love after our children were born! Was it easy? Definitely not! Was it worth it? In every way! Sometimes having the knowledge can be just as overwhelming as not knowing what to do. Do you just start running again? How much is too much? Too little? What if I am hurt? Is it normal to pee while I'm running? Why does my back still hurt? Am I going to hurt my baby if I keep running? 

What we found to be the most surprising fact was that there were nearly NO resources to help women answer all of these questions. Since we are PTs we know that a physical therapist can be a great resource, but that is unfortunately not common knowledge.  We learned from our experiences that women need and deserve more: we need education, advice, support and even just some instruction on a few exercises and running plans that may help make this time easier.  

That's why we wrote this book - to spread the word about how our bodies respond to pregnancy and childbirth and how we can be smart and safe as we progress through this time. We want to educate ALL women, from casual exercisers, to elite runners and triathletes because regardless of how much we run, we all feel the joy of the wind in our hair, our feet hitting the ground, having time to think (or not think) and all the other countless benefits of running. We ALL deserve to have this information available to use ourselves, or to share with our friends and family.

Writing and publishing a book costs money, and promoting it (so we CAN spread the word) takes more time and financial resources. This is why we are asking for your support. We want to cover our costs to publish and promote this book so that we can share it with as many women as possible. We believe this book is the first of its kind and we can't wait for all of you to get your hands on it.

Risks and challenges

Our greatest challenge has been ensuring we have sufficient financial resources to allow us to publish this book and get it in the hands of as many women as possible. We have eat, slept and breathed this book for the last several months and are just so excited to get it out there.
