Hey! We're Gnoss - a four-piece Scottish folk band based in Glasgow- and we're absolutely ecstatic to announce that we've begun recording a full-length studio album. We need your help to bring it to life!
We have spent the last few years experimenting with our music; dipping in and out of different genres, writing our own material and stepping away from what we've done before. Our goal is to bring you something different, a sound built from the tradition whilst facing a slightly different direction. Expect to hear brand new original material as well as some of our favourites from gigging over the last year.
We feel that our careers as musicians and as a band have reached a stage that it would be very hard to progress with our goals and aims without a full length industry standard album to take on the road with us. We want to make an album of the highest quality, cutting absolutely no corners in order to take our music and our career to the next level.
This 11-track album will be recorded by Gus Stirrat (Fat Suit) at his Glasgow studio 'Solas Sounds, the same studio we recorded our 'Brother Wind' EP in last year. We had a great time in the studio then and knew it'd be the place to get the sound we're looking for. We have Ross Ainslie (Treacherous Orchestra, Ross & Ali) as our producer; he'll be helping us push that sound out of its comfort zone and back again. We couldn't be more excited to be working with such a fantastic team.
You can help make this happen by supporting our project financially in exchange for a bunch of perks (signed album copies, music lessons, house concerts - we've looked out a bunch of stuff!) OR just as importantly by sharing the message and telling your friends! We're looking at this as the next step in building a community around our music - spreading the word about what we do goes a really long way.
Here's what we're expecting the album to cost, what we're asking for YOUR HELP with
Studio Time - Recording (Studio, Engineer, Producer, Guests) - £4,500
Studio Time - Mixing (Studio, Engineer, Producer) - £2,000
Duplication (making the product) - £2,950
Design and Artwork - £550
Promotion and Advertising: £1500
In all, the album will cost around £12,000 - we plan to cover this cost through a combination of your funding + our own money that we've set aside over time. Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated!
If you've got any further questions, comments, or jokes about any elements of this Kickstarter than please get in touch! Our email is firstname.lastname@example.org - we'd love to hear from you.
Our journey over the past year has been a total joy and it's all thanks to all of you that have supported us this far. We can't wait to see what the next year holds!
Risks and challenges
We really appreciate everything you can give. As students/recent graduates we are looking to use this album as a launch-pad for our careers. If we don't manage to meet our target then we will not get the money raised and will have to delay the production and eventual release of the album until we have gathered the money. The option to pre-order the album is a great way to help as you are helping us to bring forward the launch of an album by getting it early rather than us hassling you to buy it at a gig.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
