Inspireality Palace is a structure, a journey, a communal space and a transformational experience- it is the great convergence, where every pathway is an entrance and all doors lead to the present moment. The structure is an immense Fermat Spiral, a naturally-occurring shape of two spirals circling inwards. The massive, curving exterior is covered in hard, glossy, black scales that sway gently in the wind. As you walk through one of the two identical entrances, you enter a hallway that expands to towering 18ft tall archways, then contracts back down to another entrance, leading you to the inner sanctuary. This pure white room is an inviting, comfortable space to seek shelter from the heat and to connect with others. Egg chairs invite you to rest within the soft fabric walls and ceiling. The slatted wooden floor is laid out in a beautiful radial pattern expanding from the center. At night this floor will be underlit with color-changing lights, altering the color of the entire room. As travelers find sanctuary inside the Palace, they will swap stories and experiences, creating a temporary community in the deep playa.
Inspireality Palace becomes a new experience once evening falls. As you walk through the hallway, you discover distinct images projected on the walls. Sometimes the image is of a stranger, sometimes it is the current you, and sometimes it is the you from just a moment ago. You play with the time-delayed video of yourself by making silly gestures, and then wait to see them projected back at you- a way of communicating with your future self. As you notice another person, you jokingly wave, and surprisingly, the stranger waves back. This video projection is a soundless medium of communication, allowing you to use body language to contact others in an unknown location. Screens are filled only when participants are standing in front of them, so the experience changes depending on the number of people interacting with the Palace.
By its very nature, Inspireality Palace is a meeting place- an inevitable destination. The inward-circling spiral draws travelers into the oasis at its nucleus, a space designed to create community. Technology exposes us to past, present, and future reality emphasizing the fact that each traveler has followed a unique life journey to this inner sanctuary. Now, a shared moment between those who have arrived inspires a bond between once separate forces.
Personally, the interlocking double spiral is a shape that resonates with us, as two individuals who have formed a deep connection, working together. We have also chosen to construct thirteen archways along each path, representing the number of years we have been together. Although the details of the design have personal meaning for us, the larger theme of two people following distinct pathways that lead them to a profound moment of connection is universal.
Please help us share our vision of community, shared experience and personal connection with the citizens of Black Rock city. Inspireality Palace is truly a communal effort and we want you to be a part of it. Building an art piece of this size is a massive undertaking, and many people have already volunteered their time, skills, materials and labor to bring the project to this point. We also have a deep commitment to use eco-friendly supplies and practices through all phases of production, including building with reused materials as much as possible and running the project exclusively on solar power.
Our core team includes several experienced, multiple-year playa artists, as well as professional art directors, construction workers, contractors, filmmakers, set builders, producers and engineers. We know how to bring large-scale projects to completion, and we have attended the burn from 7-15 years, so we understand the unique challenges the playa can present.
Our budget to create this piece is $75,000, but through the extensive use of reclaimed materials and the tireless efforts of our volunteers, we now need just $8,000 to bring our dream to the playa.
This is your chance to be part of a large-scale art piece at Burning Man. You can bring this experience to the people of Black Rock City. Any amount you can contribute will be accepted with the deepest gratitude. Even small amounts help us reach our goal.
Our biggest hope is that you are able to experience Inspireality Palace for yourself! Thank you so much for learning about our project.

Risks and challenges
Building an art installation for the Black Rock Desert is no easy task. We will be up against mother nature herself to get this project built in time... and that's just once we're on the playa.
Before that, we have a tight schedule and budget to contend with. As we develop and troubleshoot our electronics, we need to keep in mind the amount of power we have.
We’ll be setting up a good portion of the project locally, but it won’t be until we’re in the desert that we experience setting up the ENTIRE structure. Hopefully, we’ll have worked out any potential problems while we’re close to home, but we’ll need to remain flexible to accommodate any on site adjustments.
We hope that by the time we return from the desert in September, that we’re all still friends and that we haven’t gone completely broke! :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
