Global Good Morning is an art project made specifically for you. We're trying to record greetings on our site from every person and every way of waking, from around the world. This means you. Say good morning on the website and help spread the word about the project. It's a big and interesting world with many languages and ways of waking. We need your "good morning," your friends', and your family's. We want everyone's.
The project is a viral experiment attempting to cross borders, languages, cultures, technologies. But ultimately, it's going to be a sculpture. When we have enough greetings, we're going to place them in time and longitude around a large ring of speakers that represents the circumference of the globe. A viewer will then be able to stand at the center of this ring and, over the course of 24 hours, hear the world waking as time travels around. With your voice and help, it will become reality.
Help us break Kickstarter! We're not just looking to reach an amount. We want backers from every timezone and every country on earth! If you know someone, tell someone. All amounts, big or small, from everywhere, will make this project a reality.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
In a time where people are pulling apart and growing uneasy with each other, this is a project about connection. What we want to do with the greetings is build a sculpture. It will be a ring of speakers that literally allows a viewer to hear the world waking up as time moves and each recording is played. At any moment on earth, someone is waking, a day is starting, and things are just beginning. There is potential in the day, optimism, things to look forward to. We all need to feel this. And we need this right now. We need connection with each other, connection with possibility and with the gigantic ball we're all standing on. This project seeks to infuse people with a sense of wonder and to allow them to play a role in the making of that wonder.
We started it with a simple website collecting greetings from everywhere. With your help and enthusiasm we want to expand the effort to the point that it reaches anyone with any form of connection, from phone to internet, from rural to urban.
HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT THIS?
So glad you asked. The success of the project depends completely on the successful spread of the website we've built and our ability to create tools for people who don't have access to the internet. We're going to spend all money raised continuing to streamline and optimize the site and build other tools. We'd like the site to be available in many different languages and on many mobile platforms. It needs to be as easy as possible and as ubiquitous as possible.
How do you jump from this culture to another? How do you get someone who doesn't have much tech savvy to participate? How do you make something that gets spread enthusiastically around the world? How do you leapfrog into countries where access to the internet is limited? We're looking to answer these questions.
If you have far flung friends, invite them to participate alongside you! The more people who contribute, the more complete the project. We’re looking to represent every time zone, every country, every person on earth, period. This means you!
The other thing is that while we need money to support the project, if you have expertise, that's just as valuable. Know a little something about making very viral and participatory campaigns? Know something about low tech solutions? We'd love to hear from you.
Kickstarter is the perfect platform for this experiment. Kickstarter folk are far and wide. You're supporters of great, innovative projects. You are kind, loving, excited by ideas and you care. This is a project that's as democratic as possible. And it makes complete sense that we'd be on a funding platform that is as well.
Risks and challenges
The biggest hurdle for this project is non-participation. We're competing for people's attention and so part of what we'll look at with Kickstarter funds are ways to better engage people. The other issue is technological. We've built a site to collect the 'good mornings' but understand that a good deal of the global population either doesn't have access to this kind of technology or doesn't engage with it. So we're also going to look at ways to jump into other technologies and communities.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
