Baku: Dreamwalkers is a fun and thought-provoking series about a dreamwalker named Penelope Glade, aka Pen. Recently, Pen has gained the ability to literally enter and interact with the dreams of those around her. She's starting to figure out that she might be able to do more than just enter the dreams... she can even control things in them!
For me, the exciting part about this series is tackling the questions "what would you do if you could enter and manipulate the dreams of other people?" and "what are the ethical boundaries of it, if any?"
In the first issue Penelope has just discovered her ability and has only just begun getting her feet wet exploring it. While she's exploring the dream of a person whom she cares for deeply she finds some unsettling imagery going on and, though deeply hurt by it, is unsure what to do, or how to confront it.
In issue two Penelope decides to delve deeper into the dream-world and really get a feel for what she can and can't do. Bonds between Penelope and those close to her are deeply shifted as she comes to terms with her abilities and what's revealed to her through their use. Also... in issue two there are SEVENTEEN pages of dream sequences (out of a total of 31 pages)!
If you enjoy a fun and complex fantasy story; if you like comics that don't hold your hand through the whole story; if you like comics that hide important details in plain sight, both in the text and in the art, giving clues to what is really going on... then Baku: Dreamwalkers is for you!
Penelope Glade: Pen is a 21 year old art student at Greyrose University. She moved across the country to be closer to her long-time boyfriend Luke, after he'd moved to a nearby city to pursue his career as a lawyer. Luke lives a short train ride away from Penelope in a high-rise apartment building.
Alessa Martin: Alessa is Pen's roommate and fellow student at Greyrose University. She tragically lost her parents at a very young age and grew up living off of the kindness of her friends and family. Alessa is putting herself through college with the money her parents had left for her. She has a tendency to put forward a very fun-loving persona, but really it's a way to mask her true self.
Luke Howard: Luke is Penelope's boyfriend of a little more than 2 years, though they've been friends since they went to high-school together. Being a few years older than Pen, he went to college and moved to the city of Albetrau to work for a big law firm. Pen followed the trek across-country shortly after he moved.
First off... the prices for international shipping SUCK! For instance, currently it costs me anywhere from $17-23 USD to ship a comic book internationally, with the cheaper one being for Canada. I am not a fan of these prices, and I hate that I have to put them on here to get a physical copy of Baku to you... BUT I want to try to offset that price for you a bit. Every international backer for physical rewards will get a free 8"x10" signed print that will not be available anywhere else. I will only have enough made to ship to you. This is my way of saying thank you, and I'm sorry that international shipping prices are so high.

My name is Galen Ihlenfeldt and I am a comic book artist & writer, as well as a professional illustrator. I have successfully funded and delivered 3 Kickstarter campaigns and have collaborated on many other campaigns, normally as an illustrator for the projects.
Baku: Dreamwalkers is a labor of love for me. I don't make it for the money or just to say "oh hey I'm a comic artist." I do it because I have a story to tell. I have characters that I love. And I want to share those characters and their stories with you.
Baku: Dreamwalkers is planned to be at least a 12 issue series. The script for issue #3 is almost complete and plot arcs are planned out up to #7, with plot points detailed to carry the series up to #12.
This is the best platform for me to both raise money to produce the books and get them straight to you! It's a platform I'm very familiar with, having successfully completed 3 campaigns already.
Issue #2 is almost completed. The inks are almost done and the color remains. The majority of what remains will be completed during the campaign and wrapped up shortly after, with a projected delivery date of September 2019. Giving plenty of time to finish the book and produce & coordinate the files with the printer, then put them into production and finally shipped to me so I can ship them to you!
Risks and challenges
I have managed and delivered 3 successful Kickstarter projects by myself now and I have a good understanding of what goes into planning the successful execution of one. That said, I still cannot guarantee that obstacles won't present themselves along the way, however, I plan to avoid as many as I can by using reputable companies for production, as well as handling the packaging and shipping personally.
Should any obstacles or delays arise, I will be sure to keep you informed as to what is happening and what is being done about it.
Production will be going through Greko Printing and they have an average turnaround time of about 2 weeks for most jobs. Most of the time between funding and delivery is to allow some wiggle room for the art to be finalized as well as to give allowance for minor delays or unforeseen circumstances.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
