Gift subscriptions will be available quickly
Folks have asked about the one-year $15 subscription reward (as a standalone or a $15 add-on), and when it will be available. As noted elsewhere, the plan is to make it something you can give as a gift this Christmas and New Year season.
I'm planning on sending a "survey," the way that Kickstarter lets us contact backers after a campaign is over, as soon as I can. Because surveys can be sent only once, I have to make sure I have all the details I need from everyone in place before I hit "send."
I want to get the survey sent by Friday morning, and then be able to send redemption codes for subscriptions during the Pacific day on Friday. (I have to collect shipping information for some, T-shirt sizes, and other data!)
The way it will work is that I will send you a one-time use code:
- If it's a gift, you can send the email I send to your recipient, and they can follow the instructions, which are as easy as clicking a link to open a Web page, which will prefill the redemption code, entering their email address, and then confirming their account via email.
- If it's for you and you have an existing active or lapsed account on our Web site, you can log in first, and just punch the code in or click the link in the email, and it will extend or set your expiration date.
- If you have an existing App Store subscription that is active, I have instructions I will include about giving us your information so that you turn off auto-renewal there, and we extend your Web subscription to one year plus however long you have left at the App Store. This avoids you losing any time on your subscription.
Because these may be used as gifts and because we won't have a credit-card on file, a couple of weeks before these subscriptions expire, we will send out a note that explains that the subscription will end unless it's renewed in the politest possible fashion, so that if anyone has received a subscription as a gift, they don't feel as if they are being upsold.
Let me know if you have any questions.
