UPDATE! We're FUNDED! So, we've added a stretch goal! Help us get to $26k and we'll release a second album of new original songs featuring my trio backing up a bunch of my favorite NYC jazz vocalists which we'll make for you in 2020! Already signed up are Hannah Gill, Kim Hawkey, Veronica Swift, Dandy Wellington, Margi Gianquinto, and Barbara Rosene with more names TBA!
Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
My name is Glenn Crytzer. I'm a New York City based big band leader, guitarist, and songwriter. My band, the Glenn Crytzer Orchestra, specializes in the music of the Jazz Age and Swing Era as well as new, original music that I compose and arrange in the vintage style.
Most people spend April and May getting ready for the cold to be over and the summer to start. I spent mine this year watching Christmas movies, drinking hot cocoa, and...writing 11 new Christmas songs. Once the creative juices started to flow I couldn't stop, and suddenly we had enough material for a new album!
We need your help to produce the new CD, which we're calling "Underneath the Mistletoe." We're planning to record my 11 brand new original Christmas songs as well as 9 new arrangements I'm doing of holiday classics. In addition to the full 15 piece big band and our two singers, we'll be adding a 9 piece string section to about 1/2 the record to make it that much cooler!
Since our music is in the old-school style of most of the great holiday classics, we hope the songs we're recording will become perennial holiday favorites for you and yours to enjoy along side the classics!
Here's a list of the songs we're planning to record:
- Underneath The Mistletoe
- An Old Fashioned Christmas
- The Little Tree
- Keep a Little Christmas in Your Heart
- Hey, Mister Snowflake
- I'm Sorry Santa
- It's a Wonderful Life
- All I Want for Christmas is Food
- Christmas in New York
- Playing Santa Claus
- (Watch Out For) The Krampus
- Deck the Halls
- Jolly Old St. Nicholas
- Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel
- Silent Night
- Tea (Chinese Dance from the Nutcracker)
- Up on the Housetop
- Over the River and Through the Woods
- I Saw Three Ships
A couple weeks ago, our pianist Bryan and I got together to make a few video demos of the song in his apartment. Here's a couple of the songs for you to check out:
- April/May 2019: write all Original Songs (completed)
- June/July 2019: raise funds
- June-August 2019: complete arrangements
- September 2019: rehearsals and recording
- September/October 2019: mixing, mastering, pressing
- November 2019: Awards fulfilled, CD released.
- December 2019: Drink Eggnog and pat ourselves on the back for a job well done.
The regular members of the GCO who will be making the recording are an all star cast of NYC musicians: Sam Hoyt, Mike Davis, Jason Prover (tpts); Rob Edwards, Jim Fryer, Ron Wilkins (tbns); Jay Rattman, Dan Block, Dennis Lichtman, Ricky Alexander, Matt Koza (reeds); Glenn Crytzer, guitar; Bryan Reeder, piano; Ian Hutchison, bass; and Andrew Millar, drums.
Here's some video of the band in action:
I'm super excited to have an amazing line up of people on the production side involved with the record as well, including the folks at Oktaven studio, grammy-winning sound engineer Todd Stoll who will be doing the tracking, and the ever-amazing Steve Turnidge mastering the project.
Now all we need to bring the project together is YOU! 'Tis the season for giving, so help us bring our vision to life by becoming a supporter on Kickstarter!
Thanks, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Risks and challenges
There's always a risk when making a record that something could go wrong and it won't come out. But, this is my 9th release, so I'm no newbie to making records. I work very hard to attend to every detail, and as a result I've never had a session that didn't come out.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
