A guitar playing experience that is out of this world.
The first ever all Titanium guitar with no neck or body! (say goodbye to annoying neck adjustments and intonation nightmares!)
It all started with the master dreamer, musician and minimalist artist Alan Gittler back in the 1970's. His vision was to strip away individual elements of a functional product to find out what lay within it's heart that could "not" be removed. By doing so he mastered the art of "subtractional refining" as we call it here. He discovered that although wood had been used since the guitar's creation, it was not necessary to the function of the instrument. This is not to say that various tonewoods were not "nice" or "pleasant"...just redundant. The basic elements of vibration and gain were the only truly indespensable elements at play when making sound. Everything else simply existed to shape and mold that sound to the individual player's taste. This explains why there are so many variations on the same theme that came into being in 1931. The whole world has been molding their designs from what is, essentially, the same piece of clay. Enter Allan Gittler.
Allan's design was embraced
by both artists and museums alike. It was a runaway success in it's day.
The Gittler guitar received patent 4079652 back in 1978 and there are now nearly a dozen new patents pending on the revitalized and reimagined Gittler of 2013.
Sadly, Allan is no longer
with us but Jonathan, his son and heir is a partner in our renewed enterprise. There
were a great many challenges facing us when we undertook this effort. We wanted
to maintain the clean, minimalist design and smooth features, while at the same
time offering greatly improved functionality. The guitar was already a
noteworthy industrial design that was a very capable musical instrument. Our
goal was to take every aspect of it and offer some degree of improvement so
that, when we were all done, we could look on our work and marvel at it's
technical prowess. It's beauty would be without measure but we wanted a guitar
that wouldn't stop at just turning heads. We wanted to achieve the supreme
expession of our engineering abilities and make something that guitarists would
be excited to utilize as their primary axe.
After three years of labor and research we are ready, with
your help, to cut a wide path for the Gittler brand. We have most major Guitar
magazines ready to review our instrument and we are excited to bring it to the
world as a fully realized concept and not just a prototype with extraordinary
potential. We own a fully integrated machine shop and we have partnered with
the best Electronics and assembly plant in the Northeast Corridor. Gittler
Instruments LLC is poised to make a bold and aggressive entrance into the
musical instrument world....and it all starts here!
The original Gittler Guitar was invented in the 1970′s by Allan Gittler and received U.S. patent 4079652. His basic approach was to subtract as many unnecessary features as possible from the traditional electric guitar. By paring the instrument down to the point of pure function, it would then become more responsive to every nuance of playing, however subtle. By doing away with not only the body but most of the neck (including the fretboard) and all volume and tone controls, he was able to work towards his finished product; a 29″ long, 3″ wide, stainless steel guitar weighing less than 5 pounds.

At Gittler, our inspiration is to take this history and couple it with true innovation...
What!? A guitar made entirely of Titanium?
The Gittler Guitar is a striking minimalist design incorporating rounded cylindrical and ergonomic features. The guitar is manufactured entirely of 6AL-4V aircraft grade Titanium. MIDI guitar players love our guitar since it is 100% Roland compatible.
31 of them in fact! The frets, like the majority of the instrument, are cylindrical. Here we have another classic example of form following function.
A cylinder provides the smallest possible contact area for the string. Precisely defined fret spacing is the cornerstone of perfect intonation.
Patented Tuning Machines
The headless guitar tuners were developed in New York by Allan Gittler in the early 1970′s.
It was Patent Pending until 1978 at which time it received US Patent #4079652, preceding Steinberger’s re-imagining of the design by two years. It’s description of the preferred embodiment is very clear and simplistic. Unlike later designs, it uses the simplest form of gear and abjures a reliance on bulky devices to provide unnecessary mechanical assistance.
The Gittler Guitar tuners incorporate only two parts to smoothly tension the string to pitch. Our past success has only been augmented by the present material’s anti galling properties and a revolutionary aerospace coating, employing Teflon™ impregnation of the base metal.
Headless Guitar Design
Our newly improved headstock “string lock” mechanism provides an isolated vice grip on each string individually and prevents your pitch from wandering.
Like the rest of the instrument, it is a minimalistic design that makes string changes simple and fast. Because the string is not wound around a post, the chance for core and winding fatigue at such points is eliminated.
The Gittler Guitar was a pioneer in the development of headless guitars.
The guitar benefits from active electronics and both standard 1/4″ and Hexaphonic outputs. The small E-Box at the back of the instrument has a volume wheel. The guitar is designed to work with most 13 pin guitar synthesizers and can connect to your computer for use with musical notation programs or processing software. There is no need for an externally mounted synth pickup since each of our magnetically isolated transducers sends an individual signal that provides for optimal tracking.
Dual tone controls are provided for treble and bass. These controls act as momentary switches to adjust the parameters of your processor or computer patch. Also inside our dedicated electronics box is a “set it and forget it” midrange boost.
World Leading Pickup Architecture
The world’s first and only guitar with 6 discrete transducers. Each string has an individual pickup, magnetically shielded for a high degree of isolation from crosstalk. All are custom wound with high purity copper and wax coated to reduce microphonics. Our patented design boasts a number of class-leading performance enhancements. The net effect is one of removing years of dirt and grime off an old window. The tone you were searching for was always there, it was simply coated with too much artifice to shine through.
LED Fret Lighting
The Gittler Guitar employs a luminescent fret marking system. Our unique implementation utilizes miniature cross holes and pinpoint LED’s that shine up from a central gun-drilled channel.
The result is a soft glow that illuminates the player and a series of tiny light dots that provide a trail map on a darkened stage.
The acrylic Gittler Guard is the first ever removable and replaceable guitar neck! Attaching the guard is literally a snap. It simply presses onto the spine and provides the player with a choice of customized neck profiles.
Imagine being able to change the feel of your guitar from a soft C shape to a more rounded D profile in under 10 seconds. The Gittler Guard is unique in its ability to emulate your favorite guitar playing experience.
Note that the Gittler Guard is an additional accessory available on our website.

“Weapons Grade” Finish
Teflon™ impregnation of the base metal to provide a smooth but extremely hard exo-skeleton.
This interstitial coating is electrolytically applied, providing anti-galling properties and superior surface hardness. It is used in jet aircraft turbines, helicopter rotors and military weaponry systems.
It is extremely damage resistant and will rarely require cleaning or polishing.
The main challenge that we face is change itself. For decades, guitar players have become accustomed to playing guitars made primarily of wood. We endeavor to provide something revolutionary to the guitarist by taking all the commonly accepted notions of what a guitar “should” be and methodically stripping away all that is unnecessary and redundant. Then, with the bare bones in front of us, we rebuild and revitalize from aircraft-grade Titanium.
We don't claim that the designs currently available are "wrong", only that the guitar is due for another step in its natural evolution. Our instrument, at 3 pounds, with a highly evolved feature set, is a veritable Swiss army knife of a stringed instrument that plays just like the traditional guitars you know best.
Our mission is to overcome traditionalism. With your support, we will be able to make this dream a reality.
We have a dedicated, passionate team at Gittler, with extensive knowledge of Titanium, electronics and both the mechanics and art of the stringed instrument.
Another challenge facing our project is the high cost of American material and labor. From the beginning, we have dedicated ourselves to the challenge of making our guitar entirely on U.S. soil. We believe strongly in the integrity and ingenuity of the American manufacturer...but this comes at a price.
Please help support the Gittler Guitar project and let's bring guitar playing to the next level...together!
