Production Update #5

Dear Backers,

Over the last few months, the team (with our CEO in the middle and in the trenches) has been putting in countless hours with our manufacturer to ensure that the 360cam is product perfect!

The really good news?! Your cameras will be on their way to you soon! We have final cameras in their packaging ready to be mailed.

As you can see the little blue boxes are packed up tight, lined up right and ready to go. Now these boxes need to go through customs and shipping procedures, and with the Chinese New year approaching, this can take a bit of time. We are pushing hard!

We’ve been with you throughout this long process and truly appreciate you being on this journey as part of the Giroptic community. Again, thank you all for your continued patience and support. We’re working as fast and hard as we can without sacrificing quality to get these cameras in your hands. We look forward to hearing the amazing things you’ll doing with the 360cam.

'till next time!

Team GIROPTIC

April 2nd!! Nothing for about 2 months on Facebook or on this page! Doesn't look good everyone. Not ONE SINGLE WORD from anyone. No replies to our comments. No emails, no address verifications for final shipping status...NOTHING!!

    2. Matt Seligman on February 18

Well 21 days ago you posted this update, do you think you could let us know where you stand regarding the shipping.. tons of people have asked since January with no reply?

    3. Adrian Podpirka on February 17

When will this be sent? I never received it.

    4. Christopher Hibbard on February 17

This camera has been a scam since day 1.

In no way was this camera HD quality in a full 360 degrees at full screen size.

Forgetting the delays and lies as well as the poor quality in stitching and color, it never was what we were promised. The entire name is deceptive and the company poorly run if not a criminal organization.

8 years they have been at this. Think about that. The probably thought cash from us would help them complete their mission. It did not.

What we will get when we get it will never be as good as we were promised - PERIOD.

    5. Marko Radosevic on February 15

Bianca...i sincerely relate to you. This anguished feeling is unbearable.

    6. Marko Radosevic on February 15

Cmooon people [im refering to backers], how much longer are we supposed to tolerate this?
Have you seen "latest" fun 360 video quality on Giroptic facebook page? it.is.garbage.

Like many of you here said so far, photo stiching, additional 65$ VAT payment etc its all wrong.
Have we got what it takes to prove that Girpotic owes us full refund or unseen updates, power ups on camera.
No matter how bizzare my statement looks, i can only cry in disbelief becouse Giroptic wasnt able to deliver this outdated cam. so we can only dream of bonus features.

      REFUND.

    7. Юрий Дергачев on February 14

So... and where is my order? (((

    8. Bianca Ribeiro Montenegro on February 12

I really don't want to be on this journey.
From the beginning I asked to cancel my order, but I never received an answer.

    9. Peter Finger Photographer on February 11

Shouldn't my Kickstarter order from 2 years ago show up in MY ACCOUNT on the GIROPTIC site? I don't see it!!

    10. Darren Leung on February 9

I don't even want them to send me mine, because if they actually bothered to contact me, I'd happily go to the factory (probably somewhere in Dongguan) and pick one up IN PERSON.

But you guys know what? If we got ZILCH from them, well, we should have expected it. Isn't Kickstarter's purpose basically to throw money at a 'creative project' with the guarantee of nothing in return other than hope? It burns me up to admit it, but them's the breaks...

    11. ZippyFund Inc. on February 7

I really hope I will be seeing my Giroptic sometime soon.... If I see another picture of boxed product I think I will begin to cry....

We have been so patient, please tell me when I might really be receiving my Giroptic.... Seriously.

    12. Yang Liang on January 31

Hi, GIROPTIC team. I send you an email regarding my shipping address. I live in PRC (you guys call it China) but I used an US address as my shipping address, because I didn't know you made all these cameras in PRC. So I'd ask if you can send my pledge directly from PRC to PRC...do not send it to USA and then forward it to PRC. Please check your mailbox for details including my addresses. Thanks.

      R on October 3
If I don't have this camera in my very hands in perfect working condition by early March 2016 (my daughter's birthday) then I hereby vow I shall never spend a single dime on KickStarter.

      Bob S. on October 3
Looking forward to it and, Giroptic team, you are unfortunately probably too nice to do this, but please boot all the doubters like Daniel, R, Rami, Florian etc. to the very end of shipping, since they don't expect to ever get it at all anyway, while those of us who are excited should get them first.

      Ian G G Smith on October 4
      R? Really..................................?

[Fool me once - shame on me, fool you guys twice/thrice/100x, shame on them & you...hehehe This has to be said: Giroptic is the most dishonest KS company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with... They're actually insulting our intelligence with their molecularly-distilled carefully-crafted fake news...]

And now we'll end with a little comic relief:

      R on November 25
I hope to get it before I start growing gray hair on my balls... (I'm 41, so it'll be a close race hehehe)

      R on December 15
You have lost the race as explained in my previous comment (Production update #3). :(
      ;)

[I do hope by the time I receive this cam I'll have ANY hair left to dye at all...]

    14. Poz on January 29

I could almost live with the quality, but that stitching is realllly bad. It is absolute garbage. If you are looking for it, it is okay to see it. But if it is all you can see and renders 60 degrees of the video inconsistently torn with different contrast, then it fails.

    15. Bob S. on January 28

Ah, thanks, Charles. I hadn't seen the price. Still, I only hope it's adequate enough for the folks below who are already planning to return their Giroptics.

    16. Charles Cooper on January 28

That Nokia product looks awesome. It's $60,000, BTW. A wee bit more expensive than the Giroptic...

    17. Bob S. on January 28

I hope Giroptic is sincere as Nokia's got something between the 360cam and the Panono: http://www.engadget.com/2016/01/28/nokia-ceo-vr-comeback-sundance-interview/

    18. MaxStarter on January 28

I'll be mostly using it for taking still, street view style, so 4K images will look better. I'd imagine that a number of their staff have done their job, and are currently developing the next cam, which will be probably be 4K video and 8K stills

    19. David Hothersall on January 28

So add in the fact that video was joined together in a program adding even more quality loss I don't think this is particularily representative.

This is a much better example imo.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch…

    20. David Hothersall on January 28

You also need to remember two things about Touy Tube videos.
      1. The default resolution setting for You Tube video is not HD so you need to push the resolution to it's highest setting by clicking on the cog in the bottom right corner.
2 The compression algorithm that YT use also adds artifacts to videos so they're never displayed at their best.

    21. Ian G G Smith on January 28

Louis - Philippe does mention in his comment that he joined 3 videos together and lost some quality as a result even after that the quality of his posted video is better than most others. Thanks for taking the time to post it Louis.
Perhaps if you have time you could post some unedited/raw footage for us. WOULD appreciate it, those of us patiently waiting. Good comment though very re-assuring.

    22. Yutaka Hirata on January 28

Also does it performed at the same time shipping out PoE unit?

Your company had exhibited optional equipment to boast CES.
But you will not be described in our backers.
      Who is your top priority?

Please remember that we are not a general consumer .

    23. GEY on January 28

Donc tout le monde est bien content d'avoir financé la futur caméra sportive 360 de Decathlon et aussi bien content de recevoir une daube qui partira à la poubelle tellement l'image est mauvaise. Bravo

    24. Bob S. on January 27

Anyone else confuse this webcam with a broadcast-quality rig?

    25. Poz on January 27

Eric, the cc that I used protects consumers from being screwed over. If they do not provide a refund then I will simply do a cc charge back. There are rules around this and I have a window of opportunity. For example if I get the cam and one can see improper stiching, I have three months to get a cc charge back after a number of attempts to request a refund. But please if you wish to forfit your power as a cunsumer and don't want the ability for a refund, you keep thinking that you gave your money away with no strings attached.

    26. Eric J. on January 27

@Louis-Philippe Loncke - Watched the video. I know that Giroptic never mentioned this but did you happen to find out if there might be image stabilization to help smooth out the motion a bit? Perhaps as a firmware update?

    27. Eric J. on January 27

@Poz - Too bad you can't get refunds from KS and project creators (not just this one) are not obligated to refund any money. You backed a concept and this concept is getting delivered. Be happy you're getting anything at all because there are projects (like Zano) that took a ton of cash from backers and then crashed and burned.

    28. Wael on January 27

Please tell me the quality is better than Louis-Phillippe's video!

    29. Gerald Rainer on January 27

I hope I have it before summer, just missed my sons first birthday. But maybe it will be here by June? Please don't forget to add our kickbacks ...

    30. Poz on January 27

Louis-Philippe Loncke, you are joking right? That quality is absolute trash. If I recive that I will be requesting a refund.

    31. Louis-Philippe Loncke on January 27

I used (I guess the last/final version) on of the production 360cam, 2 weeks ago. I drove to Giroptic's HQ, got the camera for a weekend (used in the first EU VR Hackathon) and gave it back on the Monday morning. My video: https://www.youtube.com/watch…
      My feedback:
      * Happy with the quality of the camera (video/photo)
      * Camera easy to use
      * Android app had bugs but a developer told me so and told me the Iphone app was better (not tested) and the android app would get an update. I still have 2 photos stored in my "Gallery" on my smartphone.
PS: I joined 3 videos with "MP4 joiner" I guess some lost quality so better to use a better soft for editing.
      Other stuff:
      * I talked to GoPro @ISPO where they revealed their new 360 casing for 6 cameras. Now all 6 cameras are synchronised but not stitched. So still a lot of work to process. Of course the Gopro + Kolor (French company) will be better but it's bulky (surprizingly not so heavy) and way more expensive.
      * I saw also PANONO at ISPO (we made a 360 photo selfie), super light and very nice for photos.
      * I own 1*BUBLcam
The super advantages of the Giroptic will be the in-cam stitching. So from camera to Youtube, it was soooo easy. Then waterproof + can't wait to be able to use it into a future SKYPE videocall. (Anyone knows someone at Skype to see it they're working on this?)
Let's be (more) patient with Giroptic. They want to deliver a first real "dumb" consumer product and they will. I cannot imagine someone non-tech to start editing 360 content with a 3000 USD laptop and a few hours of processing. Giroptic will gives us this opportunity.
And oh man, it's unbelievable how small this camera is and imagine the work to put all that tech in it. It really will enter any pocket.

    32. Jaco-Byte on January 27

"We have final cameras in their packaging ready to be mailed"

      Sounds Mid Feb

That will get about 6 months before V2 arrives with full 4K. What else would they need $4.5M seed funding for.

If they dont have a 4K version by Q4 GoPro will. The race is on...

    33. Marc Gehling on January 27

...and truly appreciate you being on this journey as part of the Giroptic community.

Once the camera has arrived, only the work and the community begins...

    34. Elvey on January 27

      Subject line: New Excuse #36

You will get your camera in the future, maybe. Till next time thanks for the vacation funds. Another update will be forthcoming after Vietnamese Donkey festival.

    35. Edward on January 27

There is nothing news worthy in this update. The lack of specific details that the others have already mentioned is concerning.

    36. Alain De Gregori on January 27

and we look forward to receiving finally the 360cam. But with this update you again miss to give us details. With the last update, we were promised to receive the cam end of january. All we know now is that you have about 50 boxes ready and that you do not expect them to arrive in France before chinese new year.

    37. David Hothersall on January 27

Looking good, as pointed out not a huge pallet load but hopefully that's just the early batch. Can't wait for the tracking number to appear in my inbox.

Good luck on Necker with your pitch.

    38. Quang Tran on January 27

Well done team. Long coming but very pleased to hear this update. Thanks for all your hard work.

    39. John Hand on January 27

When are the other colors scheduled to be created?

    40. MaxStarter on January 27

Thanks for the update, though it does lack the fine detail. How many cameras have you manufactured? When will they be sent (presumably at the end of February arriving mid march) and where are the sample images from an actual production camera?

    41. Ian G G Smith on January 27

YYEEEEEEHAAAAA!!! Well done Richard and Giroptic - always knew you would get there in the end. So pleased you did not compromise on quality to rush it out. It has been a long journey but looks like it is going to be worth the wait.
To all the doubters out there I have only one thing to say "if it was easy someone would have already done it!"
      Happy Days!!!

    42. Henry on January 27

OK guys, but where is the news? ... We know you are busy manufacturing.... since ... long.
I see only 50 cameras piled, not 1200 on palets, ready to be sent, no?

Richard, you told during CES that 150 cameras where in Lille for final finetuning. Where are we today?

So, my question(s), could you please be more precise, and tell us how much are manufactured until today? what is the producing rate now for now, until you produced the 12000+? Where are they? What is the logistic plan? Send directly from China, or through France? Will you send with express shipping or post? What's about the extras we ordered? Is firmware ready? .... some precise insight for us to celebrate and set the expectations to the right level;-)

Thank you you! ... And congratulations for your tremendous CES2016 and Extremetech final!

    43. Henry on January 27

OK guys, but where is the news? ... We know you are busy manufacturing.
I see only 50 cameras piled, not 1200 on palets!

Richard, you told during CES that 150 camer

but may I please ask you to be more precise

    44. Ron on January 27

Nice, shipping the 50 Super Early Birds within the next 6 weeks means we are only 5-6 months away from delivery. YAY!

    45. Thumay Karbalai Assad on January 27

Great news, thanks for the update!
Now it has to arrive at my home only...

    46. Sean O'Sullivan on January 27

fantastic! Can't wait to get mine! Well done team!

    47. Juan León on January 27

I really tought this days would never arrive, a tear is running by my cheek...

    48. Juan León on January 27

@dragonbait, go to the survey you received by mail, or go to you pledges via desktop and follow the link.

    49. Donny Cruce on January 27

Holy cow! Those look great. Will there be tracking numbers now that there's a realistic timeframe for deliveries?
