Girls Rock Jacksonville is a music arts camp for young women and girls within the area of Jacksonville, Florida. We believe every girl is a rock-star and that by learning to work as a team they will grow to be great leaders in their community.
The camp will use music and performance as a platform to help promote creative expression, self-confidence, acceptance and community among young women and girls.
During the week of camp, girls will choose musical instruments, form bands, write original songs, earn skills provided by female music instructors, participate in music and girl-empowerment related workshops, create DIY merchandise and other artistic things!
The camp will also offer workshops regarding women in history, body image, self-defense, and healthy confidence.
This is the inaugural year for Girls Rock Jacksonville. The camp will be held at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts from July 30th to August 3rd. At the end of the week, the bands will perform a concert as a showcase of their newfound abilities, self-awareness, and sense of belonging at The Florida Theatre.
Modeled after the original Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls in Portland, Oregon and others around the country & world, we are striving to empower young women and girls in Jacksonville, Florida! BTW, we’re one of the first Girls Rock Camp in Florida along with Girls Rock Orlando (which begins this summer, too!)!
In order to make this an incredible experience for the campers, there are many things that we need: instruments (guitars, bass guitars, amps, mics, drums, PA), cables and cords, promotional materials, programs for the showcase at The Florida Theatre, insurance, camp supplies (DIY craft materials, art supplies), t-shirts for campers and volunteers, camper handbooks, plus food and coffee for volunteers.
