We found a pile of army cases which where just too good not to re-use them! The pile was huge but we took the time to carefully select 100 nicest and most beautiful cases out of it. So after the selection we bought the 100 cases we selected and we drove back to their temporary home where we will convert them into beautiful eurorack cases.

After bringing the cases to their new temporary home we now need to collect all the parts to do the modification. We are going to build in power supplies, busboards and rails. The cases have a perfect inner size of 2 rows (2x3U) of 114HP. We made one to show you how they are going to look. But keep in mind that they will all be slightly different as these are over 40 years old used cases and they all have scratches and signs of usage, but that is exactly why we think these cases look awesome!

We added the option for a detachable lit. This is an amazing way of performing live gigs with the Raw Army Case. Pictures will follow soon (Tomorrow 19-03-2019)

Technical info

Size: 67cm x 30cm x 16cm (outerside)

The cases have 3 handles and the locks are flat on the surface. They are easy to carry around and they will not break if you bump into something.

The case contains 2 rows (2x 3U) of 114HP.

You can leave your patch when closing the lid.

*Optional we make the lid detachable. This is an amazing way of performing live gigs with the Raw Army Case.

Weight: 10Kg, this includes the PSU and rails.

Power: Meanwell RT65B.

The Meanwell powersupply will give +5Vdc at 5A, +12Vdc at 2.8A and -12Vdc at 0.5A. We have been using this PSU for a long time and it have proven to be more than enough power for 228HP.

*Optional we install a Doepfer PSU3  (add €115,-);  output voltages/currents: +12V / 2000mA, -12V / 1200mA, +5V/2000mA

The case works both on 220V as well as on 120V.

Busboards: 30 powerheaders.

The cases will contain a double busboard with 30 headers, so you will never have to worry if you have too less powerheaders in the case

The case comes plug and play ready to use without the modules shown in the pictures.

We added the option for a detachable lid. Here you can see the process how we copied the wood on the left side to the right side (this is only done in the cases with a detachable lid!):

This project is a collaboration between Error Instruments and Ginkosynthese.

Error Instruments

Paul Tas

My life before error instruments can be described as a life of an artist in making sculptures and paintings. I was making sculptures from robots, called "the beeb" collection.

By exploring the art of circuit bending and hardware hacking, i have found out that many people miss this, because the commercial products were created as a mainstream products, with a result for mainstream music.  Thus, with the money that i have earned from art, I have started the shop, "ERROR INSTRUMENTS".   One of my future plans are collaborating with other brands and companies or artists.  And what is important to know, I strive to have unique, special products, rather than going with the mainstream flow. It is all about creativity for special artists, whom are looking for special spices, it is like when you make food and if you use the same ingredients, the food will taste the same, it is  also the same with sounds. People are striving for new, unknown, different sounds to differentiate themselves from others.

Ginkosynthese

Jan Willem Hagenbeek

I am the driving force behind Ginkosynthese. Although I am a graduated architect I now only design and build musical instruments and cases. My first music creation steps were made in 1992 when using my parents computer. I started to experiment with sounds and trackers trying to make music which was not easy to put in a certain style. From there I started to experiment with circuit bending and modding which resulted in a range of live acts from 2004 in collaboration with several other musicians and visual artists. My first live solo project (2004) on stage was an atari-controlled orchestra of electronic child toys. Since then more audio-visual projects have been presented on stage.

A significant milestone was establishing an electronic musical instruments company Ginkosynthese in 2012. The modules I make as Ginkosynthese have shaped my sound further and I am always searching for new ideas to make non standard musical electronic instruments.

Risks and challenges

We found the cases on an army storage and we have carefully selected 100 cases out of many. This took many hours but therefor we are 100% sure all cases are in good condition. But as these cases are getting a new life and have been used in the army they all have signs of usage and no case is exactly the same. All cases have some scratches but that is the charm of the Raw Army Case.

Long-lasting design

The cases are up-cycled army cases. These cases are made for the German army in the seventies and are made to withstand the most critical situations. These cases are now over 40 years old and still in near mind condition, you will be able to rock on with these cases forever.

Sustainable materials

The cases are getting a second life, so no extra trees are cutted to make these wonderful cases.
