What is CHARLIE?

CHARLIE: an Adventure is Red Egg Theater's spring play, an original adaptation of a semi-autobiographical short story by Cj Hayes. In the vein of "The Phantom Tollbooth" or "Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland," CHARLIE is the tale of a boy whose eldest brother has died in a motorcycle accident. Charlie is sleeping in his bed when he is suddenly awoken by George, a talking kitten, who leads him on an excursion inside Charlie's own mind. Charlie must then outsmart a number of foes before confronting God - who is not at all what he expected.

Red Egg will present this semi-true tale, featuring puppetry and digital media, in Santa Cruz, CA in March of 2012. We have a story, we have a theatre, we're building the puppets... now we need YOU!

Who is Red Egg Theater?

RED EGG THEATER is a theater company in Santa Cruz, CA producing original, experimental, and daring adaptation work in the vein of surrealism and magical realism. The company was founded in 2008 by Artistic Director Gina Marie Hayes in order to strengthen ties between UCSC Theater Arts, Cabrillo College, and Bay Area theater companies.

How will my pledge count?

Help us reach our goal of $1000 by March 11th! Your contribution goes a long way:

$5 buys us cardstock to make shadow puppets.
$25 buys us the fabric for costumes.
$50 buys several hours of tech rehearsal time!
$250 pays for the ENTIRE SET!

and so on. Help us make the things that bring our characters to life!
