About this project
The Next Battle is Already Here and It's Time to Pay Back Their Service.
GI Money helps to “Support Those Who Support Us” by providing hard-hitting journalism, incisive interviews, thorough research, stimulating articles, engaging content, and attractive photography for our veterans and those actively serving in our US Military.
How We Help
With so many veterans looking for employment and navigating the next stage of their lives, GI Money is rooting out the financial minefields that face those who put their lives on the line for our freedom. We are in touch with Student Veterans Association (SVA), apprising our readers as to GI Bill benefits scams such as Corinthian College, the federal government regarding the current VA hospital crisis, top national employers as to their latest and best veteran job fairs, smaller veterans associations which may not be as well known but that have a lot to offer, and much more.
Did you know that as of the latest annual Bureau of Labor statistics, young male veterans (those ages 18 to 24) who served during Gulf War era II had an unemployment rate of 29.1 percent in 2011, higher than that of young male non veterans (17.6 percent)? Many unemployed veterans require additional counseling and medical care before they can even attempt to become gainfully employed. A daunting 26% of Gulf War II era vets have a service related disability.
How Dedicated and Persistent are We to Help Spread the Word about Veterans and Military Families?
We recently featured television personality Mike Rowe in our latest issue. On October 5, 2015, he had these kind things to say to his 3 million fans on Facebook about our Associate Editor, Tamar Alexia Fleishman:
"Another week, another magazine, another cover. I know it’s tiresome for those of you already familiar with my smack, but here’s another article bursting with nice things about your humble host. http://bluetoad.com/publication/?i=269852 Moreover, it’s an excellent example of persistence that goes far beyond mere reportage.
The writer, Tamar Fleishman, is a friend of this page. She contacted me a year ago, and requested an interview for a very small publication called GI Money. I told her I couldn’t, (even though I’m a big fan of both GI’s and money.) Things were so damn busy I couldn’t see the forest for the trees. She then sent a bottle of rare whisky to my office, at which point I quickly rethought my schedule.
As always, a click on the above link will go a long way to persuade more editors to say more nice things about mikeroweWORKS, which can never be bad. Reading the actual article is optional, but recommended.
Much obliged, and Happy Monday. – Mike"
GI Money Magazine is What?
GI Money Magazine is a free publication, distributed to our military bases, VA hospitals, clinics, commissaries, etc. around the world.
From money-saving tips to credit and budgeting advice, GI Money offers an authoritative financial resource to military families. It is created and developed with the support of the University of Central Florida Business Incubation Program.
The more money we raise, the more issues we will print, mail and distribute. That means: more troops, vets and their loved ones we can reach. Let's do something more than waving a flag and saying how much we love our soldiers! Serve an active role by helping us reach them.
Why Print is Not Dead!
Veterans and our service members read... a lot. Print copy gets passed around to interested parties. It never gets lost as a link sent to a spam folder. Print copy doesn’t rely on cell signals, electricity or security filters. Attractive print copy has been tacked up inside military lockers for nearly 100 years – it’s iconic. Print copy gets seen by the friends, colleagues and family members of the original reader. We know this and direct editorial copy to them, too. Well-done print ads are attractive, not annoying. They’re not something to “x” out of, they don’t pop up or under what you’re trying to read. They are what you’re trying to read. Magazine ads look better than newspaper or Internet ads, as they are glossy, photos appear crisper and available with more colors.
Who Are We?
We are veterans, editors, professional finance writers, attorneys, military spouses, out-of-the-box graphic design artists and some of us are a little of each! We are a “dream team” that other top magazines wish they could entice to their publications. How do we know? For many years, we worked for them. We honed our craft. We learned about print and web marketing. We networked like crazy and we have tight connections.
GI Money’s core team worked on a similar military-focused publication for many years. This now defunct magazine stopped publishing over 5 years ago. This same magazine’s readers and advertisers were left wanting its return.
Many of them reached out to GI Money’s founder, Javier Rodriguez. This created the spark that would develop into the fuel behind GI Money Magazine and website. The prior magazine, directed and designed by Javier, was respected and credible. It won educational awards and become part of The Department of Defense’ Financial Readiness Initiative. Javier made industry-leading connections during his 7 years of work as the former project’s Director.
We’re a tight-knit military squadron ourselves. We’re not some anonymous, haphazard, randomly collected group. Many of us have been working together on other projects for many years. We know what needs to get done. We help each other out and cross-pollinate our talents. Because we act as one, we make deadlines... never excuses.

Risks and challenges
Whether it's a critical interview that must be rescheduled, source fact-checking, or postal issues, we know that sometimes the magazine can have a change in deadline. We put in the 'round the clock time that we expect of our military and veterans. We track our shipments of issues through the post office.
We have been at this for many years.
We are Relentless Professionals and Passionate military supporters!
Help us publish more!
If we exceed our initial goal, we will work hard to create a better product possible! This would mean more higher quality articles, increased print runs, amped-up web content and a greater ability to market and distribute the magazine worldwide.
If we surpass our $2,000 goal by:
+1,000 we will commission 4 more articles for our website
+2,000 we will commission 4 more articles for website and hire web designer to update our site
+3,000 we will have money to update website and add more resource pages and functionality
+4,000 we will have a new GI Money Institute section in website for online training and "how to" videos
+5,000 we won't know what to do with that much more money... just kidding. Not really?!?Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
