"Gilgamesh" is a story set in 2100 BC. in Sumer, nowadays southern Iraq.
Gilgamesh, two thirds god and one third human, is faced by his worst fears. His one and only friend, Enkidu, falls sick. Their long-time friendship finally comes to an end. Enkidu dies and leaves behind him Gilgamesh to live with sorrow for the rest of his life. Gilgamesh refuses to let Enkidu go, and his grief takes him to an impossible journey.
This story is part of a greater epic called the Epic of Gilgamesh. It is believed that it's the oldest literature in history and is, unbelievably, still relevant to our lives nowadays.
"Gilgamesh" will be a three minute visual narrative depicting the last moments of friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu.
This film is my thesis project for Columbia College. It will be shot on 35 mm film using full Arri BL III camera package.
Most of the budget will go to costumes, props, set construction, food, transportation, and film processing and HD transfer. I'm putting the rest of the costs from my pocket.
The costumes will be brought from Syria for greater authenticity. The film score (Soundtrack) will be composed in Syria based on and inspired by ancient Mesopotamian melodies.
The film will be shot in a museum for 3 days in April.
The story of Gilgamesh has been my favorite since my childhood. Having the chance now to make it into a movie is a dream come true.
