The darkly humorous story of a soon-to-be married young man who is slowly transforming into a tree.
"Growing" tells the tale of Tyler, a young man in the midst of preparing to wed his high school sweetheart. There's just one hitch, Tyler is slowly turning into a tree. The film is a darkly humorous story that takes the notion of growing up, and planting roots, and turns it on its head.
The crew of "Growing" is primarily composed of students from the Savannah College of Art and Design. We are fortunate enough to have access to some of the highest quality camera and lighting equipment possible, as well as some of the most talented up-and-coming filmmakers out there.
WHAT DO WE NEED THE MONEY FOR?
Special Effects - Making Tyler's transition from human to tree believable is paramount to this film's success. Getting that transformation on the screen not only means CGI, but to assure realistic and professional quality, we're using a great deal of practical make-up effects and prosthetics. We have a very talented 6-person make-up team who are running tests and making preparations for the film. However, the materials necessary are expensive, and your donations will make the difference in accomplishing these effects to the degree necessary for the story.
Food - As Napoleon Bonaparte famously said, "An army marches on its stomach," and a film crew is no different. We have a dedicated, hard-working crew, but, we still have to feed them, two meals a day, every day of production, or else they'll drop dead on us.
Production Design - Despite the efforts of our crafty production designer, not every prop and piece of wardrobe can be acquired for free, and we need your donations to make up the difference.
Locations - Finding the right locations is incredibly important to this story, but getting them isn't always free. We still need to pay for permits and rental fees.
Transportation - Our commitment to utilizing gorgeous and cinematic locations means additional cost, not only to rent a truck and haul our equipment, but shuttling cast and crew to set each day.
Equipment Rental - While our school will provide a great deal of equipment, we want to bring our visuals above and beyond. Accomplishing these shots may mean additional lenses, lights, and cranes.
WHAT'S THE TIMELINE?
Right now we are right in the midst of preproduction. Storyboards are being made made, make-up tests are being done, roles are being cast, and locations are being scouted.
Our dates are set and locked for principal photography in the middle of April. After that, the wheels of post-production will begin turning. Editing and visual effects work will continue on through the summer with the final film reaching completion in the fall.
From there the film will be ready for film festivals around the world.
Thank you very much for your consideration!
