I'm a big fan of 3D printing my own dungeon terrain, but I've noticed that most sets available are comprised chiefly of right angles. This makes it difficult to produce a classic RPG wizard's tower or guard keep. So, I took it upon myself to design a fantasy tower suitable for your game master's tabletop.
This campaign is to provide you with enough files to print your own stack-able tower of as many floors as you see fit. The base files are already made, and the stretch goals await us. If you don't have a 3D printer yet, don't worry, they're getting more affordable every day. I am currently printing my prototypes on a $300 printer and they're coming out great. See a preview of a printed and painted piece below.
As shown below, the tower quarters are designed to be printable one at a time on most mid sized commercial printer beds.
When assembled, the tower measures 12" in diameter and approximately 4" high per floor. You can stack the floors as high as you'd like. I consider the basic tower layout to consist of three floors and a roof, making it around 70ft tall in a one inch game scale. Below you can see how the tower can be stacked and sections moved to view the action within floor by floor or at a cross section.
The funds from this campaign will be used to provide me with a more sophisticated 3D modeling software to do final edits, and a better 3D printer to run further structural stability tests before declaring the designs complete and sending the files off to you. With a larger and faster printer I can print prototypes much more quickly, allowing for a dramatic reduction in turnaround time between original concept and final design. A professional 3D CAD suite will allow me to apply textures to my models and freehand sculpt details.
The base file set without stretch goals consists of the following sections:
Ground Floor Entryway Left
Ground Floor Entryway Right
Ground Floor Wall Quarter
Upper Floor Quarter with Arrow Slit
Upper Floor Quarter with Opening to Stairs Below
Rooftop Quarter with Opening to Stairs Below
Using these sections printed in varying arrays you can create towers you need to run limitless high rise adventures.
Risks and challenges
The files you will receive will be 100% created by me on a completely open source platform. As such, there are no legal barriers to the distribution of my material to you.
Furthermore, the base files themselves have already been made, and the vast majority of stretch goals are already in testing phase.
Logistically speaking, all I'll need to do by way of distribution is email you your printable models, so shipping is a non-issue.
Nothing short of my very untimely demise or the complete cessation of internet services on Earth will prevent me from getting my backers their files.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
