(Read below to learn more about Burst! then play the Flash powered proof of concept over at http://teamkaizengames.com/games/burst-web-edition/ !!)
Burst! Is the indie rhythm game for indie musicians! Originally built as a Flash proof of concept on the Android platform (look up Burst! Beta by AEC Mobile, requires Adobe Air to be installed separately), we got some great feedback from that and are now ready to take Burst! to the next level by developing it in Unreal 3 via the Unreal Dev Kit program!
In Burst!, players detonate fireworks to the beat of music. As they progress through the game, they unlock elements off of the Periodic Table to increase their color palate (different minerals and metals off of the Periodic Table are used in real life to make different firework colors). This kind of game design element (including real Science, Technology, Engineering and Math aka STEM naturally in gameplay) we call 'educational lite'. Burst!'s goal isn't to enable people to pass chemistry tests necessarily, but just to show how STEM elements enable real life experiences like firework shows and help gamers have a deeper understanding of the world around them! We also enable players to design their own Special Shell (that detonates when they blow up fireworks on 5 beats back to back) that puts their own unique design in the sky!
In the final version of Burst!, we aim to make a web tool where indie unsigned bands can upload their music, add the beats players need to respond to and make their own DLC tracks for fans to download at shows. Players will be able to download these songs from the Burst! Store (there's a button for it in the Flash beta, but it's not live right now) so they can discover new acts and use the music as their canvas for a pyrotechnic masterpiece!
This is the standard gameplay screen for the Flash powered beta (in the final version, it will be 3D in an actual 3D environment).
Wanna try Burst!? You can try it on the Android Market (Burst! Beta by AEC Mobile) but, due to the current nature of Air Mobile, performance can be heavily impacted by the specs of your phone. You can also try the Flash powered beta in web browser form on our site over at: http://teamkaizengames.com/games/burst-web-edition/
While you're at it, why not sign up for our forums and tell us how we did? We can actively take that input into consideration for the Unreal 3 build!
Also, if you enjoyed the song in the build and trailer (Bad Battery Door Burst! Remix by North Central Montana rockers M-79) you can download the song for free! The link is: http://teamkaizengames.com/m-79/
Just repay us by helping spread the word about this Kickstarter page and also show the M-79 guys some love over at http://www.facebook.com/MSEVENNINE !!!!
