The name says it all. Our newest wireless speaker is unlike anything else on the market. Modern, minimal, and portable, the Outlier leaves out the techie gimmicks and focuses on what's truly important, sound and aesthetics.
A premium blend of satin coated polycarbonate and genuine wood encompass impressive acoustics for a rich, natural sound that’s deserving of its appearance. By incorporating minimalistic design and natural materials, we merged classic with contemporary to redefine the ordinary in speaker design.
The "geo-cone" body of the speaker was inspired by classic cone amplification aesthetics and reimagined through the use of polygonal design. This allowed for a generous interior cavity, capable of fitting larger, louder components than other speakers in its class.
The main design hurdle for the product was wrapping genuine hardwoods around the tight radius corners without splintering or cracking. After months of failed attempts, we were able to determine the exact thickness and backing material of the wood in order for clean, consistent application that resulted in a truly seamless look.
It's taken about a year of countless sampling, revisions, certifications, and legal filings, but the tooling is complete and the product is ready for market. We couldn't be more excited to introduce this new, unique product for our debut into the wireless audio industry.

Based in Portland, Oregon, Recover is founded and operated by a small group of individuals with deep roots in the fashion and design industries. In a sea of over-designed tech accessories all featuring the latest gimmicks, we strive to differentiate ourselves by innovating on natural and sustainable materials while offering functional design.
In 2010, Recover was built on the idea of making iPhone cases and skins from genuine wood and recycled plastics. We set up shop in a one car garage and bought a laser cutter on Craigslist to give us full control of our manufacturing and design process. We began selling our products to local boutiques and online stores.
Five years later, we've grown into a full-scale manufacturing and design studio with our sister company, Shwood Eyewear. Over the last 6 years, Shwood has become world-renowned for handcrafted wood eyewear. The domestic manufacturing process is truly one-of-a-kind and we are excited to include these beautiful products as rewards in this campaign.
Through innovative product design and a willingness to experiment with natural materials, we've been able to build a foundation of amazing retail partners and create a name for ourself within the industry. And with that solid foundation, we decided it was time to expand our product offering and apply our trademark aesthetics to the world of wireless audio.
Young, hungry, and innovative, our team is comprised of seven friends who are determined to create products that break the mold. With backgrounds in a variety of different industries including tech, fashion, and action sports, our blended skill sets help to ensure our products encompass a niche feel while resonating with a large audience.
As mentioned above, the tooling for The Outlier is complete and manufacturing has been scheduled. Our intention with Kickstarter is to build a community around the product, our brand, and to share our desire to experiment with materials and design. Our #1 goal is to create products that excite and inspire others. We strive to offer something different in an industry that is built upon a sea of sameness.
We want you to get the product first. We want your feedback. We want to know anything you have to tell us. Consider this an open forum. Connecting with early adopters is what inspires us to think outside the box and push boundaries. Without support from you, we wouldn't be able to spread our message and craft nearly as wide. So with that said, Thank You.
Risks and challenges
As product designers, we understand what it takes to bring an idea to life and then to market. Our experience has prepared us to understand the risks and challenges it takes to create a new product. That said, wireless speakers are a complete new product category for us, and that alone is our biggest challenge. We're curious how people will react to a speaker that doesn't have a blocky, solid color, basic design to it.
We have an incredible relationship with our manufacturer. They have an outstanding reputation as one of the best manufacturers for wireless speakers. Their resume includes some of the top, most premium, audio brands on the market today.
If successful, we plan on the endeavor to maintain the concept and bring other natural materials to the Outlier line.
