The Time of Our Lives

3PM PST Update on refund timing:

Kickstarter will process refunds for all eligible pledges within one week. Please note that it may take ten business days for the refund to appear on a backer's credit or debit card statement. In the event that the initial refund attempt is unsuccessful, steps will be taken to ensure all refunds are successfully processed. Once a refund is successfully processed, backers will receive an email from Kickstarter notifying them of the amount of the refund and the payment source refunded.

Anyone familiar with Team Pebble knows full well: keeping quiet isn’t our style.

We love sharing Pebble’s story with you—whether it’s a new product, fresh feature, or simply staying in touch online and in person. Aside from announcing Pebble’s 4.3 software updates, our silence over the past month was deafening and out-of-character—we’re sorry for that.

Today, we’re breaking that silence. Join us as we close one chapter and invite you along for what’s next. We hope to answer as many questions as possible here, in our formal announcement, and on our Support site.

Pebble is joining Fitbit

Fitbit has agreed to acquire key Pebble assets. Due to various factors, Pebble can no longer operate as an independent entity, and we have made the tough decision to shut down the company. The deal finalized today preserves as much of Pebble as possible.

Pebble is ceasing all hardware operations. We are no longer manufacturing, promoting, or selling any new products. Active Pebble models in the wild will continue to work.

Pebble’s expertise, philosophy, and culture will live on at Fitbit. Much of our team and resources will join Fitbit to deliver new “moments of awesome” in future Fitbit products, developer tools, and experiences. As our transition progresses, we’ll have exciting new stories to tell and milestones to celebrate.

It’s a bittersweet time, no doubt. We’ll miss what we’re leaving behind, but are excited for what the future holds. It will be important for Pebblers to extend a warm welcome to Fitbit—as fans and customers—sharing what they love about Pebble and what they’d like to see next.

Kickstarter Backers

Backers will get refunds for any unfulfilled rewards. After a successful crowdfunding campaign, we were excited to bring Pebble 2, Time 2, and Core to the world. We’ve since shipped every Pebble 2 possible, but can’t say the same for the remaining rewards. Pebble Time 2, Pebble Core, and Pebble Time Round Kickstarter Editions will not go into final production.

Kickstarter will refund eligible pledges by March 2017. ***PLEASE SEE NEW INFORMATION ABOUT REFUND TIMING AT THE TOP OF THIS POST***

  • No further action is needed. Eligible backers will automatically be refunded their pledges for any unfulfilled Pebble rewards (Time 2, Core, Time Round), plus any shipping, taxes, or duties paid.
  • The small number of Pebble 2 backers who did not submit the information required to finalize their reward shipments will also be refunded.
  • Successfully-received Pebble 2 rewards are the only item not eligible for a Kickstarter pledge refund.
  • Backers who ordered add-on Pebble devices to their Pledge Portals after the campaign closed may have seen a temporary authorization charge, which reversed automatically a few days later.
  • Refunds are automatically issued to the payment card the original Kickstarter pledge was placed with.
  • If the original pledge payment method is no longer active, backers must contact the financial institution that issued the card to receive the returned funds.
  • Backers outside of the United States will receive refunds equal to the $USD amount of their pledges at current exchange rates. There will be no adjustments to account for exchange rate fluctuations between the original pledge payment and the upcoming refund.
  • Visit kickstarter.com/contact with any additional questions.

Current Pebble Users

Active Pebble watches will work normally for now. Functionality or service quality may be reduced down the road. We don’t expect to release regular software updates or new Pebble features. Our new mission will focus on bringing Pebble’s unique wearables expertise to future Fitbit products. We’re also working to reduce Pebble's reliance on cloud services, letting all Pebble models stay active long into the future.

One-to-one Pebble support is no longer available. Any Pebble currently out in the wild is no longer covered by or eligible for warranty exchange. Users looking to troubleshoot their Pebbles can still visit our Help Portal and community resources:

Those who ordered and received a Pebble from pebble.com are no longer eligible for return or exchange. That said, we are processing and refunding any pebble.com returns that were successfully completed with our Support team before December 7, 2016, in addition to refunding any items purchased from pebble.com which did not ship by this date.

Those who recently purchased a Pebble at retail may return their watches based on the retailer’s return policy.

Pebblers can still find replacement charging cables and other compatible accessories (bands, skins, etc.) from Amazon.com and third-party vendors like GadgetWraps and Clockwork Synergy.

Pebble Developers

Our developer community set Pebble’s wearable technology ecosystem apart from the rest. No other wearable platform was more open or gave developers more freedom to create, experiment, and delight the world with beautiful watchfaces, useful apps, and unique experiences. The Pebble Dev community set out to Make Awesome Happen, and they accomplished that beyond our wildest dreams.

Fitbit wants to Make Awesome Happen, too. Pebble’s successful approach to third-party wearable development is undeniable, and Fitbit is welcoming our expertise in this space wholeheartedly.

Developers have an exciting opportunity to reach and delight over 50 million users and counting. The Pebble talent joining Fitbit will help the company accelerate the launch of tools and resources devs need to enhance future Fitbit products with experiences that can take wearables to new heights of utility and appeal. If this opportunity excites you too, join us for the ride! The Pebble Developer Blog has more detail on how we're bringing Pebble's expertise in this realm to Fitbit.

Until Next Time <3

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to each and every Pebbler for making awesome happen with us over the years. Our community is vibrant. Our community is passionate. You are what made Pebble special and worth fighting for, every second of every day.

We will always remember the love you showed Pebble, through thick and thin.

Thank you,

Hey friends, just checking in with a PSA for any Pebblers paired with iPhones.

iOS 10 introduced a ton of cool new goodies for your devices, but also introduced some critical Bluetooth bugs that kept third-party accessories like Pebble 2 from pairing properly with the new iPhone 7.

With the release of iOS 10.1 this week, our friends in Cupertino squashed the bugs and improved Bluetooth connection reliability for all Pebble models. Kickstarter backers with the iPhone 7 or 7S who have not yet set up their Pebble 2 rewards should update their phones before on-boarding their watches. Trust us, it’ll make life so much easier :)

If you’ve been experiencing any nagging Bluetooth connection issues between your Pebble watch and iOS device, we recommend updating to iOS 10.1. If issues persist, please drop us a line using your Pebble app: Menu » Support » Contact Support to email us with diagnostic log files automagically attached.

Until next time,

Eric + Team Pebble

PS: If you’re in the US and are eligible to, remember to get your vote in by November 8! Visit vote.org for everything you need to get set up.

The week after shipping began, we highlighted the new features and experiences backers can look forward to from their Pebble 2 + Heart Rate rewards on the Pebble Blog. Thinner, lighter, and stronger than the original Pebble, backers of this project can proudly say they made Pebble 2 + Heart Rate a reality.

What’s Done and What’s Left

Since Update 14, we’ve been working hard with our logistics partners to bounce back strong from Typhoon Megi and a Chinese national holiday. We’ve shipped out thousands of Pebble 2 rewards and show no signs of stopping.

Pebble 2 shipments for White and Aqua (that do not include a currently-unavailable color in their order) were completed at the end of last week. Black and Flame rewards are in progress—they will be done by the end of October. We are waiting on Lime rewards to arrive from the factory. As soon as they land, it will take our distribution center about four business days to send them all out to backers.

We’ll finish shipping all Pebble 2 rewards in November, as mentioned in Update 14. Multi-watch orders with Black, White, Flame, or Aqua will ship as one parcel. If you have Lime in your multi-order, we will ship that model separately and cover the added shipping costs.

Thank you for getting us this far! Your passion for Pebble 2 made top retailers take notice—they’re eager to have it ready for holiday gifting. As such, we made a tough decision to allow some backer reward deliveries in Black to overlap with that model’s availability at retail. Last week, we directly emailed backers who are affected by this decision, letting them know ahead of time and apologizing for the change to our original plan. For more about this situation, join the conversation we’ve been having together on Reddit.

US Retail News for Pebble 2 + Heart Rate

To meet deadlines for making Pebble 2 + Heart Rate available for the holiday season, Black and White models are on sale at some Walmart stores (online availability will happen later on), while Amazon.com will begin carrying White and Aqua this week. To start, quantities at retailers will be limited. Retail versions don’t bear the exclusive “KS3” laser etching and—at $129.99—are priced up to $30 more than reward tiers from Kickstarter.

We hope you can understand why we decided to meet set inventory deadlines with our retail partners while continuing to ship backers’ rewards. Retail partnerships are key to making sure the Pebble community keeps growing and enjoying our approach to wearables.

Pebble Software 4.2 Has Landed

The latest updates to Pebble’s watch firmware and mobile apps are now live.

Step and sleep data from multiple watches now sync seamlessly between each other and with Pebble Health on mobile! We also made under-the-hood improvements to the Workout app, laying the groundwork for cool new capabilities down the road, so stay tuned!

All current users can update their Pebble apps to 4.2 from Google Play or the iTunes App Store. 2-Series and Time-Series users can update their watches to 4.2 from the Pebble app: Menu » Support » Update Your Pebble.

Pebble Time 2

We’ve been testing Time 2 in-house and overseas these last few months—verifying and perfecting hardware performance while identifying areas where adjustments are required. Properly executing these tests, evaluations, and adjustments is crucial to making sure the final product is as great as it can be. Unlike software, you only get one chance to nail down the hardware, so we're “measuring twice, cutting once.”

The pre-production Time 2s currently in-house are Engineering Verification Testing (EVT) units. It’s these watches that we’re putting through the ringer for tons of environmental, mechanical, electrical, battery life, and other stress tests.

Even a hard working Time 2 deserves a treat. Last night, a pre-production sample made waves at Betabrand’s Silicon Valley Fashion Week. Paired with Mark Solomon’s tailored Smarthole Hoodie for smartwatches and Pebble Core, it was great to see Time 2 to strut its stuff on the runway!

Time Round Kickstarter Editions

Earlier this month, we updated our Help Page and emailed backers waiting on polished Pebble Time Round rewards.

As soon as we know more about when to expect those models from our factory, we’ll post a fresh update. In the meantime, the information sent to you directly remains the current status. If you did not successfully receive that update and would like a copy, please message us at order@pebble.com.

Projects We Love: The Waterloop Pod

Before signing off for the weekend, we have to show love and congratulations to the team behind The Waterloop Project on Kickstarter.

They’re currently finalists in SpaceX’s Hyperloop Pod Competition, which aims to revolutionize public transit with ultra-high-speed transportation, powered entirely by renewable energy. Supporting The Waterloop on Kickstarter will help their team have a working prototype ready for the final stage of the competition, early next year on a Hyperloop test track in Hawthorne, CA.

With so many University of Waterloo alumni on Team Pebble, we’re proud to show our support!

If your Pebble 2 reward was successfully locked within the Pledge Portal earlier this month, you’re all set—no further action is needed. We will email you directly as your Pebble 2 is ready to ship and your tracking number is created. Your tracking number will be how to best monitor your parcel’s progress, culminating in arrival at your door. For backers whose rewards are going out today, check your inboxes (and spam folders) for a tracking number!

Visit our help page for full details about Kickstarter reward shipping »

As noted in Update 12, reward shipping will start off small, and steadily increase day by day. Shipments will steadily ramp up once Taiwan and southeast China recover from the effects of Typhoon Megi this week and catch up after celebrating China’s National Golden Week Holiday from October 1–7.

  • The first small wave of shipments is a batch of Aqua Pebble 2s.
  • Our distribution center is scheduled to receive enough White Pebble 2s on Friday, September 30 from the factory to begin sorting and processing shipments for all backers of that color.
  • Next week, the remaining colors will start to arrive from the factory.
  • As those rewards are received from the factory, our distribution centers immediately start processing them for delivery to backers.
  • After factoring for the unanticipated business closures and flight cancellations from the typhoon, we now expect to complete Pebble 2 reward shipments by the end of October.
  • A small percentage of shipments may seep into November, but our shipping partners will do everything possible to avoid that contingency.

We thank all backers for both their patience and excitement while our friends in Asia recover and help us get Pebble 2 rewards home safely to you.

New Pebble Software Updates

In preparation for the arrival of Pebble 2 rewards to backers, our engineering team published the latest updates to Pebble’s firmware (v4.1) and mobile apps this week. Next week’s update will highlight new features from the firmware and apps that are available exclusively on Pebble 2, so stay tuned!

All current Pebble users can update their Pebble apps now from Google Play (v4.1.1) or the iTunes App Store (4.1.2). Time-series Pebble users can update their watches to 4.1 from the Pebble app (Menu » Support » Update Your Pebble). Version 3.12.2 remains the most current firmware for Pebble Classic and Pebble Steel at this time.

Visit the Pebble Blog for full details about the latest Pebble software updates.

Pebble Core = More Awesome with Amazon Alexa Expansion in the UK and Germany

A 139 personas les gusta

"Alexa, is your Pebble Core integration available anywhere new?”

Today, thanks our friends at Amazon, those in the UK and Germany can enjoy Alexa’s voice-enabled skills when Pebble Core starts shipping in 2017.

Pebble Core + Amazon Alexa: Now we're talking.
Pebble Core + Amazon Alexa: Now we're talking.

Amazon Alexa is a powerful, cloud-based service that makes everyday tasks a breeze with simple voice commands. Alexa has only gotten smarter and more useful with time, and its expansion into the UK and Germany is amazing news for folks in that region excited for Pebble Core.

Our engineering team is already building Alexa Voice Services (AVS) into Pebble Core, using Amazon’s Alexa Skill Kit (ASK). ASK makes up the tools developers use to expand what Alexa-enabled devices can do, from controlling smart home devices to telling you funny jokes.

Voice integration has opened up countless opportunities for wearables, and it's great to see Amazon bring the Alexa Skill Kit and Alexa Voice Services to developers in even more markets around the globe. We're big fans of Alexa, and we're excited to be working with Amazon to bring Alexa to Pebble Core, not only in the US, but now in the UK and Germany as well.
