As Seen On...

Secure your phone in new ways...
We kept hearing complaints from people who had nowhere to put their phones and wanted a more versatile alternative to the traditional belt clip holsters. So we started talking to people and brainstorming. Some of the features people wanted to secure their phone, included:
- Working with multiple phones or devices
- More flexibility for clothing
- Seamless connection with walls and car dashboards too
Two years ago we started working on the initial proof of concepts, all involving magnets. There were 3 fundamental design criteria:
- Strong enough to run with
- Easy to remove
- Shielded to protect your phone, credit cards, and other devices
Countless prototypes later...
We started with 3D printing, but plastic didn't cut it. So we set up our own CNC machine and started producing robust aluminum prototypes, all in Jeff's basement.
At first, it was a side project, but then it grew legs. People were getting excited and volunteering to be beta testers. After they used it for a couple of months, this is what some people said:
“I really dislike having a bulky phone in my pocket, and I think the traditional belt clip holsters are ugly. What I like about Clipless is that I can have my phone on me, but can hide it in new ways.”
“I used to always miss calls because my phone was lost in my purse! Now, I know exactly where my phone is all the time.”
“I don’t like the normal holsters, they always jab me when I sit down, or get in the way of my seat belt. I love how I can attach Clipless pretty much anywhere.”
We received lots of great feedback, including suggestions for improvements. To help with industrial design we worked with three designers from Cortex Design in Toronto. They helped us get it to where it is today, a high quality product that feels great in your hands.
More than just a magnet
Secure Phones and Devices
Clipless works with any kind of phone, GPS or tablet, that has a flat area to adhere the connector. The unique adhesive we use, allows you to stick the connector to your phone or tablet directly, or to a case! The adhesive works on almost every kind of material, and can be removed without residue. Basically, if it’s not squishy (very flexible) silicone rubber or genuine leather, then it should work just fine. Fake Leather? Plastic? Aluminum? They all work great.
Secure to Clothing
Clipless works with any normal clothing or fabric. That means denim, skirts, shirts, purse-liners, golf-bags, jogging pants, sportswear – the list goes on. Basically, any average single layer material, works perfect! Two layers of something thin, works too. Use caution on delicate clothing, such as lace or silk.
Secure to Surfaces
You can stick the NFC-enabled mount to any surface, meaning plastic, your car dashboard, any metal, wood, tile, glass or mirror. As long as it’s flat, the mount will work. The mount works with a really strong semi-permanent adhesive. It is designed to be single-use, but it can be removed, without residue. Use caution on delicate surfaces, such as painted walls.
Mounts are NFC-enabled
The Clipless mounts are enabled with near field communication (NFC). This allows a phone to intelligently run common tasks, based on the physical object it's mounted to.
We’ve partnered with the creators of “NFC Task Launcher” to enable our Clipless mounts to launch specific apps automatically when the phone is mounted. Click the embedded video to learn more about NFC.
Be one of the first to get Clipless...
We've spent two years refining Clipless to make sure that it works well and that it can be sold for a price that people want. We're almost there! With your support, you will help us fund:
- Production tooling
- Minimum quantity orders
- Economies of scale to achieve a reasonable price
There are three different pledge levels, however the only difference between two of them, is the amount. We're giving away the first 1000 at $17 + shipping, to the early birds. After those are gone, it's $35 + shipping.
Stretch Goal #1: Colour!
If we reach $50k, we’ll be able to support a second colour option! See the video below for more info. Update #3 has some explanations as well!
Connect with Us
We want to connect with the backers. To do that, we're going to use Reddit, Google Hangout, and are open to suggestions for other channels.
So far, we've done an AMA on r/CasualIAmA, on June 10th. We will check back in on that thread every once in a while.
Those curious, might be interested in the first reddit post from before kickstarter.
Risks and challenges
Clipless has gone from a side project, to a full time effort, for both Danilo and Jeff. After personally funding most of the initial design, and more recent support from friends and family, Clipless is finally at the point of being ready for its first manufacturing run. With any initial inventory build, delays are the biggest risk. The technologies used to manufacture Clipless are well established, as are the technologies applied to create the actual product. Last minute surprises, and unknowable unknowns, are what keep the team up at night. With the combined decade of engineering experience, and manufacturing relationships established with Cortex Design, confidence is high in our ability to deliver a high-quality finished product!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
