- 2 to 4 Players, Plays in 40 to 60 mins
Subatomic is a deck-building game themed around the intersection of particle physics and chemistry. Players start with a hand of Up Quarks, Down Quarks and Photon (Gamma Ray) cards, which they use to form protons, neutrons, and electrons. Players combine these subatomic particles to either build available Elements or buy even more powerful cards for their deck.
Each player begins with a weak deck of Up Quarks, Down Quarks and Photon (Gamma Ray) Cards.
Players start with a hand of 5 cards. They use their Up Quarks and Down Quarks to create Protons and Neutrons, and use their Photo (Gamma Ray) cards to create Electrons.
They can either use these Subatomic Particles to either:
(1) Purchase Subatomic Particle cards that get mixed into a player's starter deck, making it more powerful, like this...
(2) Build up the atom on their player mat (in order to claim Element Cards, which are what score them points) like this...
When a player claims an Element, they also place two Goal Markers on the board, competing over control for additional end game points. The catch is, you can only place those Goal Markers only on End Goals that do NOT match the Element you just built.
So, if you built a Helium, you can place a marker on any End Goal spot except Helium. At the end of the game, you'll get points for End Goals based on the Elements you built during the game IF you have the most or second most Goal Markers on any given End Goal.
Player can also remove weaker cards from their deck (cull their deck) by Annihilating cards from their hand for a cost of 2 energy, like this...
Play through the fundamentals of chemistry with Ion and Covalence AND Subatomic! For a pledge of $59, you will receive 1 COPY of Subatomic: An Atom Building Game, PLUS 1 COPY of Covalence: A Molecule Building Game, and 1 COPY of Ion: A Compound Building Game.
Ion is a fast paced card drafting game where players compete to build neutrally charged compounds, while Covalence is a deduction-style cooperative game where players work together to build organic molecules. Building on the chemistry themes in Subatomic, Ion and Covalence are sibling games that bring to life concepts such as atoms, ions, molecules, compounds, ionic bonding, covalent bonding, chemical reactions, and so much more!
Want EXTRA copies of Subatomic or our other games? If so, simply add the amounts below* to the total (pledge + shipping) of your current pledge level:
- $20 for each additional copy of Peptide, Ion, Covalence, or Virulence
- $29 for each additional standard copy of Subatomic
- $39 for each additional Collector's Edition copy of Subatomic
- $50 for each additional copy of Cytosis**
- $59 for each additional Chemistry Bundle
- $69 for each additional Collector's Edition Chemistry Bundle
- $139 for each additional Science Games Bundle

Risks and challenges
All projects have some level of risk, and ours is no different. In an effort to reduce the overall cost of production (and ultimately lower our funding goal) we are continuing to work with the same overseas manufacturing company we did with all of our previous games including Linkage, Peptide, Ion, Covalence, Virulence and Cytosis. We've had a great experience working with them and are excited to continue building on our connections.
Our turnaround for delivery will be similar to our previous games as we continue to feel out the process with the manufacturer's representatives. We do not expect delays, but anything can happen half a world away just as it could domestically. We rely on our suppliers just as you rely on us, and hope for a relationship of mutual understanding.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
