Artwork, a Quick Update, and the Scientific Review Process for Science Wide Open

Posted by John Coveyou (Genius Games) (Creator)

Hello backers!

First off, THANK YOU!! In the last few days alone from 10/31 to 11/2, our funding went up by over $25,000!

We came to a close at $136,520, making it the top funded live Children's book while the campaign was active and the fourth most funded Children's book EVER on Kickstarter

In the past couple weeks since the campaign ended we exhibited at two different NSTA (National Science Teacher Association) conventions and had a lot of interest in Science Wide Open.

More Artwork!

Wanted to share some of the latest artwork with you! We previously had several of these spot illustrations, but decided to re-visit Women in Biology to add more rich detail in some places. Here are a few works in progress!

The Scientific Review Process.... even for our Children's Books

For our books, we set a high precedent on accuracy to the science, teaching moments that encourage curiosity and compelling artwork. So, after we had completed our first set of books, My First Science Textbooks, we sent full manuscripts out to a number of backers who have a strong science background so they could review both the science and they way it was conveyed and give us feedback. We wanted to know if anything was unclear, inaccurate or could simply be conveyed in a better way.

The feedback those backers provided was incredible. Because of it, we completely re-did a number of pages and tweaked a few key peices of the other artwork.

All that being said, we'd like to use the same review process for Science Wide Open!

If you have a strong background in science education and/or teaching (specifically in biology, chemistry or physics) and would be interested in being part of our review panel, shoot us an email at with a quick summary of your background or current emphasis.

(Quick note: although we'd love to hear thoughts from every one of you, we'll narrow down the panel to about 10 people. Too many cooks in the kitchen otherwise, if you know what I mean)

I think that's it for now! Hope to hear from you!

Overflowing with appreciation,

Shelley Spence, Rahul Balaggan, and 25 more people like this update.
