About this project
PEPTIDE: A Protein Building Game is an open-drafting card game, with an element of resource management, accurately themed around the process of how living cells turn Genes into Proteins!
In a nutshell, the goal of the game is to score as many Amino Acid cards as possible by connecting them to your Peptide Chain. It's an easy-to-learn game for 2 to 6 scientists that adds a gratifying dose of player interaction, interesting decision opportunities, and critically-timed actions with just a bit of chance!
Its also the biological follow-up to my previously funded Kickstarter project for Linkage: A DNA Card Game, which can you buy at a discounted price on Amazon Prime at a reduced price during this campaign!
Players compete to link Amino Acids side-by-side, building what’s called a Peptide Chain (another fancy word for a protein). In order to build this protein, players must first make a set of thoughtful selections from a number of openly available Organelle Cards. Selected Organelle Cards are removed from that round’s available options, creating an interactive open-card-drafting mechanic.
* 2-player variant is not described in this video. Check the rules download for the most up-to-date rules. Updated video to come!
Each Organelle Card rewards players with either resources or actions. Molecular resources include ATP for energy and mRNA nucleotides, while cellular actions include attaching an amino acid to a tRNA molecule, matching an amino acid to its mRNA codon, or connecting an amino acid to your growing Peptide Chain. Points are scored based upon the types of Amino Acids in your Peptide Chain, and the player with the most points at the end of the game wins!
* NOTE: The PnP and Rules above are prototype mock-ups so anyone can try out the game. The final version of the PnP will be full color and come with the same final images used for the manufacturing of the game.
YEP - I combined them into ONE SINGLE Stretch Goal at the lower price... Just some more GEEKY things for all of us GEEKS to GEEK out with!
* Please also show us some social media LOVE! We will be thinking of some fun social media stretch goals. Please let us know if you have any in mind you would like to suggest.

"An educational, intriguing game, with a small learning curve,(mostly the lingo), some interesting game mechanics, and quite a bit of depth to it’s strategy." - Jason Hancock from Troll in The Corner
[Translated from Chinese via Google Translate] - "Peptide is indeed a good entertaining game. It achieves a good balance between the two extremes of knowledge and entertainment" - Board Game Reviews by Citie (Taiwanese Game Reviewer)
"Peptide, just like Linkage, is one of those rare games that is fun, but also sneaks actual learning in as well." - Jim Flemming from Board Game Reviews by Josh
I think the real question is "Why NOT Peptide?" I have a science background and I love games, but it's rare to see these two great interests of mine intersect. So I was trying to come up with cool game ideas and I thought to myself, “why not design a game where the game play and game mechanics are based entirely, and very accurately, upon some science concept?”
That way, instead of diving deep into a non-existent alternative universe, you dive deeply into real-world concepts that only the super geeky - or someone right in the middle of a biology class - know about! (There’s that geek in me flaring up again.) So that’s what I did. I wouldn't strictly call this an “educational game”, but becoming familiar with some biology and genetics concepts is an unavoidable consequence of playing the game.
Kickstarter was the platform responsible for the success of our first game, entitled Linkage: A DNA Card Game. We're coming back again with Peptide. The game mechanics are 98% finished and the the artwork is roughly 90% complete, but we are mainly waiting to finish up the graphic design of the box and rules sheets and then finalize the files for a manufacturer. I've invested quite a bit personally to pay for the graphics and prototyping to this point, so I am asking for funds to put the finishing touches on the game. Also, I simply can't afford to front the costs for manufacturing and shipping without crowdfunding, so that's Why Kickstarter!
Thanks for visiting our page! Here's a free Art Book with some of the cool graphics for our campaign. You can hang it on your bathroom wall, show it off your geeky biology art collecting friends and family, or use in your next biology class, or presentation.
You just can’t sell it.. That’s all...
Peptide is also the biological follow-up to my previously-funded Kickstarter project for Linkage:A DNA Card Game, which can you buy at a discounted price on Amazon Prime at a reduced price during this campaign!
Also, all games shipped to EU Backers (during this campaign will be shipped in) will be shipped from WITHIN the EU. This means all customs and taxes will be paid by me, so you won't have to pay anything extra.
Risks and challenges
All projects have some level of risk, and ours is no different. In an effort to reduce the overall cost of production (and ultimately lower our funding goal) we are likely going to be working with a different, overseas manufacturing company this time around.
This will mean that the turnaround for delivery will be longer than that of our last project, and that we as new clients are still feeling out the process with the manufacturer's representatives. We do not expect delays, but anything can happen half a world away just as it could happen domestically. We have to rely on our suppliers just as you rely on us, and hope for a relationship of mutual understanding.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The PnP and Rules above are prototype mock-ups so anyone can try out the game. These are different than the final PnP which will be sent out to backers. The final version of the PnP sent out to all out backers will be full color and come with the same final images used in the manufacturing of the game.
