Internet Adventure Club is an interactive travel series that follows Daniel and Benson on a 30 day road trip across the US as they try to complete missions assigned by strangers on the internet.
Anyone can go to our website, internetadventureclub.com, and send us a mission. A mission can be pretty much anything--it could be a small favor like helping you move or weeding your garden--or it could be bold like climbing a mountain or delivering a letter to your long lost love. Daniel's up for just about anything, and Benson's up for following Daniel around with a camera while he does just about anything.
Daniel is a 25 year old Americanadian who has a history of using reddit to organize scavenger hunts and go on adventures. In the past Daniel has been a bartender, residence assistant, pawnbroker, and forensic anthropology intern, but has recently turned his sites to travel show hosting.
Benson is a 22 year old San Diego native with his own imdb page.
- $50 - REACHED - Benson can eat enough instant noodles so that his body doesn't enter starvation mode.
- $350 - REACHED - Benson can buy a glidecam to take smoother/silkier/better moving shots.
- $850 - REACHED - Benson can buy a GoPro and some accessories. Benson really wants one of these so he can, "literally just duct tape it to Daniel's face".
- $5,000 - We can extend the trip by a second month. Mathematically this improves the project by 200%, allowing us to hit a total of 15 cities and drive up to 10,000 miles.
Where we're going is up to viewers like you. We're choosing our destinations based on the number of interesting and difficult missions in the area-- so get your friends to submit missions too!
The plan is spend two or three days at each city/town before driving to the next destination-- this gives us seven cities in 30 days. We're prepared to spend roughly 25% of our time driving.
There's plenty of ways to join the club. Daniel would tell you to send us a mission. Benson would tell you to give us your money. You could offer us a place to crash while we're in town. If you're in a band, or make music, you can let us use your music in our videos by emailing our intern at email@example.com. If you can't do any of those things, you can definitely subscribe to our youtube channel.
If our web show ever becomes profitable, we pledge to kick forward 5% of our earnings to new kickstarter projects with kickingitforward.org.
Risks and challenges
Realistically, the car could break down, or Daniel or Benson could get sick. Fortunately, Daniel's travel budget includes an emergency fund to help out in such a situation. As for getting sick-- worst case scenario, we're down about a week of regularly scheduled content as whoever is feeling better between the duo continues to make daily videos.
In terms of reward fulfillment, Daniel will be buying, writing, and mailing postcards from the road. He had to write a few hundred postcards on his last big trip, and is certainly up to the task. As for the Internet Adventure Club membership cards, shipping and handling is tasked to our intern, Chris. If you feel that Chris' service isn't up to snuff, or even if you're just having a bad day, you can email him your complaints at firstname.lastname@example.orgLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
