THE MAE GRAPHIC NOVEL
After the return of Mae Fortell’s long lost sister, Mae is shocked to discover that a world of wonder and peril has followed Abbie back home.
Once upon a time in Indiana… a 13 year-old girl named Abbie Fortell disappeared. Her younger sister, Mae was left behind to finish school, take care of her ailing father, and build a life without her sister. Eight years later Abbie has returned, claiming she’s found a doorway to a world of adventure and monsters. These tales are hard to believe — at least until the monsters show up too…
The Mae Graphic Novel
The Mae graphic novel is ready to go the presses NOW. We’ve labored over the last year and invested our personal savings to get the art completed and the files printer-ready for you. With your help we can make Mae real!
Mae is THE dream project of four time Eisner Award winner and New York Times bestselling creator Gene Ha. With Gene on writing, drawing, and lead color; our team also includes artist Rose McClain on color assist, and graphic design by Anette Nam. We’re proud of the book we’ve created and can’t wait to get it into your hands.
In addition to the main story, the Mae graphic novel will feature an introduction by Bill Willingham, a behind the scenes look at concept art and production, and a bonus "Sunday comic strip" story. As a thank you we'll also include the names of every Kickstarter backer of the printed book tiers.
Oddities and Apocrypha
We are also offering Gene Ha’s book Oddities and Apocrypha as a Kickstarter Premium. It will be the first book to collect Gene Ha’s best indie stories, illustrations and sketches. Oddities and Apocrypha will include stories set in the worlds of David Petersen (Mouse Guard), Lowell Francis and Bill Willingham’s unfinished fantasy epic Back Roads. Oddities and Apocrypha will round out with the best of Gene Ha's legendary convention sketches from the last 15 years.
Both beautifully crafted books will be bound with Smythe-sewn square backed hardcovers with full color interiors on 90lb matte stock. Mae interior pages will be 7" by 10.85" and Oddities and Apocrypha pages will be 8.5” by 11”. These works of art will not be available through any other distributors.
THE REWARD TIERS:
Beyond the graphic novel we’ll have rewards at various tiers: digital art and PDFs of the book, retailer packages, t-shirts, and personalized sketches.
Here are some of our rewards!
Mae is the start of a new and different phenomena. It’s a lavishly produced adventure tale with two strong female leads, made for a wide audience: young adult as well as older readers of both genders. We know that there are many readers out there who can appreciate story and art without needing grim, gritty violence, and sex. Let’s prove to the world that there’s room for original creations like Mae. The Comic Book medium is big enough for all of our dreams and stories.
Gene Ha. Best known as the Eisner Award winning artist on Alan Moore’s Top 10. He once heroically avoided a street fight by yelling so loudly the other guy fell on his ass… true story. For more info about Gene, visit GeneHa.com
Anette Nam. Mother, wife, and all around super-heroine by day; graphic designer by night. She lives in Michigan, but was born and raised in Sweden…and we all know Swedish design rocks! Visit anettenamdesign.com to view her creations.
Rose McClain. Freelance artist, video gamer, feline friend. Do not expose to temperatures below sixty degrees Fahrenheit. Do not bend, crush, or submerge. More info at rosemcclain.com
