The bravest thing to do is to be yourself…
Let us explore an extraordinary journey of self. A self that has been suppressed for many — and by many — for ages. Together, we can experience the beauty of being who you truly are.
About The Film
GENDER BLENDER: A FILM ABOUT GENDER DIVERSITY follows the life of Lauren, a person who identifies as “gender neutral,*” as well as the life of others who exist outside the binary gender structure of female and male. Take an intimate journey through the physical, emotional, and spiritual changes Lauren and others undergoes just to be themselves.
See how simple things like choosing which public restroom (or changing room) to use is a challenge and part of every day life.
This positive and empowering film will highlight what individuals must go through to fulfill their ultimate life-long dream: to feel comfortable and natural in their own skin. Intimately travel with Lauren and others through their extraordinary journeys and witness the beautiful lives of gender diverse individuals.
After hearing “our truth”, you will never look at gender the same way.
Please note that there are gender neutral pronouns, such as hir/ze. These will be addressed in the film. Lauren does not mind being referred to by male, female, or neutral pronouns, although other genderqueer people have different preferences…
*Please also note: There is little consensus over the difference between terms such as agender, genderless, non-gender, gender neutral and neutrois. These terms are often used interchangeably or defined differently by individual writers in ways that do not necessarily match the self definitions of others using those terms.
Aren't there only two genders?
We have been conditioned to only recognize two genders: male and female (this is known as the gender binary). There are, in fact, many more genders. There are a spectrum of various gender expressions that exist beyond the binary.
Everything in life exists on a fluid continuum… and gender is no exception.
What will the money be used for?
Your funds will go towards getting the film made and seen, from pre-production all the way to submitting it to film festivals and marketing it around the world.
We have assembled a talented, accomplished team that we will be introducing to in the coming weeks. It is important that this documentary be shot with broadcast quality equipment and crewed by professional camera operators, sound mixers and editors, so that it is seen by as many people as possible, used in educational settings, and presented at film festivals. Every penny of your money goes directly to the funding and distribution of this film, including:
- Shooting with a professional crew
- Editing and post-production, including professional sound mastering and mixing
- Closed Captioning
- Licensing the rights to news footage and music
- Legal and production insurance
- Film festival and registration fees and filing
- Marketing and distribution
How Kickerstarter Works
Kickstarter is an "all or nothing" platform. Therefore, each donation plays an intricate role in the making of this entire project. If we do not raise the full amount, we receive no funding... and we will be unable to document this process that we believe so strongly in. If you wish to pay with PayPal (which Kickstarter does not currently accept), click here. PayPal payments will not be added to the Kickstarter total, but we will make sure that you still receive the rewards listed for your contribution level.)
How Will We Use Extra Money?
If we raise money above our goal, we will use it to help with extra marketing and distribution. Our goal is to get this seen by as many people as possible.
We intend to enter this film into the major indie and LGBT film festivals. We believes its subject matter is unique, powerful, and extremely provocative. Very few (if any) movies have documented the journey of one "female's" transition to become third-gender. If you are able to help with the marketing and distribution of this film, please get in contact with us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Final Words From Lauren
I wish to share my story, experiences and life with others like me and unlike me. I wish to educate others about a population of us who have been misunderstood and often times rejected... simply because we fail to see someone beyond the labels we place upon each other.
It is a privilege and an honor to be who I am, but most importantly to share this love with all. Feel free to write me at email@example.com with any questions or comments.
Please note that there are gender neutral pronouns, such as hir/ze. These will be addressed in the film. Lauren does not mind being referred to by male, female, or neutral pronouns, although other genderqueer people have different preferences.
