All of us at Gehring Dancetheatre are very excited about the prospect of going to Edinburgh in August 2011. Edinburgh is the original Fringe Festival and therefore has the biggest following. We have heard so many wonderful stories about the amazing experiences other artists and friends have had there. There are over 2000 arts presenters and booking agents who come to view the spectacle and to make note of artists and performers for their own theater seasons across the US, Europe, and the rest of the world. Besides the idea that we could get scooped up and whirled around the globe on a world tour, the chance to see other performers of all sorts and to share the unique work that we do is a opportunity not to be missed.
Ever since I was very young, my father found a way for our family of six to travel. When I was eight years old he took us out of school for five weeks to travel through South America because he knew we would learn so much more traveling than being stuck in a classroom, no matter how good the teacher. In our own studios in New York we can only do so much. Being exposed to the wonders and unique stresses of traveling outside of ones boundaries is invaluable to growth, maturity and expansion, and is exactly what we are all about as a company.
If we raise the money needed, we already have a spot reserved for us. Jodi Kaplan, the dance agent in charge of Booking Dance, presents a dance festival within the Fringe Festival which has received numerous accolades after its inaugural year there in 2009. To make this incredible opportunity happen, we need to raise $15,000 over the next 15 months. Thank you for helping us kickstart our fundraising campaign and as we are a registered non-profit company, all donations are, of course, tax-deductible. If you are in the New York, New Jersey area, we hope to see you at our next event where we can thank you face-to-face!
