Adventure Post: A Path of Self-Learning
A 12-week long Ultima themed tabletop adventure delivered to your door via postcard. Lots of extra, officially branded tools included.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Wed, January 30 2019 11:52 PM UTC +00:00.
The idea came about one fine day while Shawn and Stile were casually chatting on the Book of Faces about absolute randomness. Stile had this idea about sending postcards that have mini games on the back as a marketing thing... one thing led to another and that idea has evolved into Adventure Post.
Adventure Post is a series of mini-adventures played over the course of 12 weeks. The first week is Character Creation and the first mini-adventure and each week that follows is a small portion of the overall larger adventure, all leading to one final conclusion.

A Path of Self-Learning
Our first adventure, A Path of Self-Learning, is inspired by the works of Richard Garriott and the wonderful folks in the UDIC community. Here is the story:
As punishment for a crime committed against humanity, the Lord of the land has sentenced you to a Trial of Character. You must be judged against both physical and mental challenges in which you will discover who you truly are. You will learn about the three principles, Truth, Love, and Courage. You will face moral dilemmas in each of the eight virtues where your answers must be considered carefully. Finally, you will face a mighty foe in one-on-one combat. A foe who's power is a reflection of the choices you have made. Can you prove yourself worthy to earn your mantle back, Avatar?
The Holiday Teaser
We understand that diving into something new and different can be a challenge. Frankly, we may be unnecessarily excited about this (but we hope not). To help you understand how the game is played and what you can expect, we have developed a special holiday themed teaser. Indi Martin provided the stock art and Shawn used some basic tools in a PDF editing program to make the old-school style dungeon map. Please know that the final maps for A Path of Self-Learning will be drawn by the incredibly talented Dark Realm Maps and not our resident map-hack-artist. If you wish check out our cute, quirky, and fun holiday themed teaser, follow the link below.

All stretch goals are currently unlocked. We will add more once we have a better idea for current total costs. Stay tuned. :)
Art by Indi Martin of Tortoise & Hare Creations
Indi is always great to work with and is quite well known in the community that surrounds Richard Garriott's games. She has helped Shawn with two projects in the past, one of which just recently published. We are excited to have her on board with this project as well.
Indi will be providing the full-color artwork on the postage side of all 13 postcards as well as the black and white drawings of the creatures you will face during your trial.

Adventure Maps by Dark Realm Maps
We have been impressed with the work of Toby with Dark Realm Maps since the first time we saw it. His hand-drawn maps are so unique and detailed. The maps he draws fit perfectly with our vision of Adventure Quest.

We feel it is important for us to transparently explain the cost of our little postcard game. We personally feel the goal amount may seem high for what we are delivering but, trust me, there is a reason and it is worth it. We have priced each of the 13 postcards at approximately $2.15 with a target of sending no less than 100 out to backers or post-Kickstarter subscribers. That's $2.15 for each of the mini-adventures that take 10-15 minutes to play.
We wish that number was a little lower but, due to the fact that we hired some top-notch professionals to do the work, it is as it must be. Indi Martin of Tortoise & Hare Creations is creating 21 different pieces specifically for this adventure and Toby of Dark Realm Maps is hand-drawing each of the 12 maps on the game-side of the postcard. Their work is incredible and absolutely worth every penny we are spending. We are also including the cost of the tail-end service, which will allow us to do some pretty fun add-on items, in the total goal.
Risks and challenges
We believe that our biggest challenge will be to engage the right number of potential backers and gather interest. We have made our game unique, easy, and (hopefully) fun to play. The rules are simple enough that you do not need to be a seasoned TTRPGer to play but we believe that they do not take away from the fun of it.
Another risk is just life, in general. The artwork is not yet complete and the personal lives of the artists are more important than the completion of the game. Therefore, if life gets in the way and slows down production, it will be what it is. If something comes up, we will address it at that time and will communicate any resulting consequences immediately.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
