With just 3.1415 (more or less) days left for the Pi (π) Private Eye: The Immortal Coil Kickstarter funding campaign, the Stretch Goals are being reduced in order to make them both eaiser to achieve.
The Stretch Goals aren't being reduced low enough to make them sure things--we still need to stretch a bit--they are a lot more obtainable now with just 3.1415 (more or less) days left.
Pi Private Eye: The Immortal Coil is a science-fiction noir robotic detective story set in an alternate futuristic past of Los Angeles--perhaps an inspired brainchild from a chance meeting between Ray Bradbury and Raymond Chandler.
Pi is one of twenty-four sentient Automatrons living in Los Angles recently recognized as an individual with rights and granted citizenship through the Automatron Assimilation Amendment. Artificial intelligent constructs of measurable independent will were imbued with rights and freedoms similar to their human counterparts. All to better serve society. But society has a way of bucking change. Someone is murdering the Automatrons of Los Angeles. Having been relieved of his duty as an LAPD officer, Pi now works as an independent private investigator specializing in Automatron matters. Now he finds himself searching for the identity of the “bot killer” before he becomes the next victim.
Why a novella? In keeping with the theme of "π," the story wordcount target is 31,415. ( I might get "cute" and throw in 9/10 of a word.) According to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and the World Science Fiction Society, my target wordcount would classify Pi Private Eye: The Immortal Coil as a novella. So, I'm calling it a novella.

Yes! The future is now! Our books are now electronic. If you live in the future you can read Pi Private Eye: The Immortal Coil on your electronic book reading device in three (and possibly more) different formats. (This reward level is not eligible for physical stretch goal rewards like Pi's Business Card, but is eligible for the Audiobook version.)
You're old-school, and you like the feel and smell of the pulp of your pulp detective stories. I get ya. Then this is the reward for you if you're not into fancy limited editions of anything. You get the Pi Private Eye: The Immortal Coil paperback to bend, fold, crease, tear, markup, whatever. It's your book.
As any self-respecting sentient automatron will tell you, friends are essential. So are libraries and our troops serving overseas. That is why the "Friend Of The Library" reward is offering to a paperback edition of Pi Private Eye: The Immortal Coil to your choice of an accredited or high school library, or to members of our military overseas. (Details will be ironed out with surveys sent at the end of the campaign.) Why am I offering this reward, other than the obvious fact of gifting libraries and troops with books? A library and military troops are also elements of the story.
THIS IS IT! The true rationalization of this Kickstarter campaign--to produce a unique limited edition hardback of my first novella. Only 314 copies of Pi Private Eye: The Immortal Coil will be created, and this is the only way (outside of shady back-alley dealings) to get a copy. As a backer at this level, you will also be acknowledged at the end of the book. I'm also throwing in the electronic versions and a paperback copy for your favorite library or overseas troops.
The "Piece of the Pi" pledge reward is a longshot, but there may be some of you out there who are interested in getting in sweet and cuddly at the ground-level of a budding sci-fi noir phenomena. Only eight (8) are being offered. This is the only way to guarantee a low numbered--between #02 and #09 inclusive) limited edition hardback. I will also flower you with gratitude at the beginning of the book. But best of all, your name will be utilized as a character or story element in Pi Private Eye: The Immortal Coil. And, not just a quick mention in a throwaway sentence. Your inclusion will be a worthwhile meaty paragraph or two--at least. In a way, this can be sort of serve as your own "immortality coil." I'm also throwing in the electronic versions and a paperback copy for your favorite library or overseas troops.
Stretch goals? Yeah, there are stretch goals--two of 'em.
The business card--a mainstay of private eye essentials. If... No. When Pi Private Eye: The Immortal Coil Kickstarter campaign reaches 99 backers, every backer will receive a replica of Pi's private investigator business card, made of sturdy plastic and featuring contact barcode. Even if you're not getting a physical book, you'll still get Pi's business card.
When the Pi Private Eye: The Immortal Coil reaches 150% its initial funding goal, each backer (regardless of pledge level) will receive an audiobook version. The audiobook version will be unabridged, professionally produced, and feature the voice talents of Brandon J. Carr.
Why a Kickstarter, and why not just write the damn book? I've already enlisted the aid of Joe Hilliard to serve as editor and help guide my story amid the automatron inhabited streets of yesterday's futuristic noirish Los Angeles, and he deserves more than just my thanks--he deserves some scratch. Also, as a stay-at-home dad who supplements his bountiful stay-at-home dad salary (note: there is NO stay-at-home dad salary) with driving for a ride-hailing service, a little financial cushioning means I can spend more time writing instead of schlepping intoxicated bar patrons home. But the main reason is that I would like to produce a unique limited edition of my first published novella before releasing it to the wilds of the web as an e-book. I mean, a dust-jacketed hardback would look so much better on my mom's bookshelves than a digital image on her Kindle.
Risks and challenges
What is life without a little risk and challenge, right?
PI PRIVATE EYE: THE IMMORTAL COIL is a story that I have been working on for a few years now--maybe even 3.14 years. The delivery date has been set for a year out to coincide with Pi Day 2019, but rewards will likely be delivered before then, maybe even around the first of the year. The wide digital release is scheduled for Pi Day (March 14) 2019, so all backers will receive their books and rewards before then. I'm keeping the stretch goals (only two) so as not to clog up the works of delivering a quality product on time.
The monies earned from this campaign will cover promotion, editorial and audiobook production, printing costs of the book, shipping, and distribution to backers of the campaign (as well as Kickstarter fees).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
