About this project
The Biggest Gaymer Convention Ever!
Since its inception, we've worked hard to make GaymerX a convention where people can feel welcome regardless of their gender or sexuality. Straight allies are absolutely welcome!
We welcome you in helping make our second year even greater than the first, where 2,300 gamers from around the world came out to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in gaming. Here's what some awesome people have said about us:
“GaymerX is the gaming convention made for queers, but important for everyone.” - Huffington Post
“Thank God for GaymerX, then, for reminding me that there are so many people of all ages out there that are like me.” -GameSpot
The purpose of this Kickstarter is to help us put down the necessary $10,000 deposit on this year's convention space: the beautiful San Francisco InterContinental hotel.
The better this Kickstarter goes, the easier it'll be to make GaymerX the biggest, safest, most fun all-inclusive game convention yet!
Need to book a room for GaymerX2? We've worked out a special con rate with the hotel but we only have limited rooms at this price. Click the hotel to get your room!
Please Note: WE EXPECT TO BE SOLD OUT AND MAY NOT SELL TICKETS AT THE DOOR.
Just like our first year, we are working to bring you games and fun with fellow queers and awesome people. However, your help here will let us make this event even bigger and better.
One of the things we've got planned for you is the wedding of a pair of super cute gamer bears who proposed at GaymerX!
Here's the awesome proposal that happened last year during Voice Acting 101, with Ellen McLain (voice of GLaDOS from Portal),
Want to submit a panel to speak at GaymerX2? Submit here by March 31st!!! Serious requests only~ wow.
Panels from last year include EA talking about their vision of a future for more inclusive games:
Please keep in mind that GaymerX is 18+. We would love for everyone to be able to attend but due to the legal issues dealing with insurance, we can't allow anyone under 18, even with a guardian. However, this does not mean the con is NSFW!
Returning this year as the Presenting Media Sponsor is LogoTV! Last year, they helped bring us Pandora Boxx and other awesome surprises, so you can expect some other exciting stuff this year too!
Oh, hey! We've also got some awesome Bosses of Honor lined up, too.
David Gaider BioWare *lead writer of Dragon Age series
Jaime Woo Meet Grindr *author | Gamercamp *co-founder
Gordon Bellamy IGDA | iDreamsky | Being Awesome

And a very special guest we're announcing on Kickstarter, the openly gay Fred Rosser aka WWE Superstar: Darren Young!!
We also have some amazing musicians lined up for our Saturday night concert including Virt, Aethernaut, and 2 Mello!
Outside of Boss of Honor speeches, there will be panels from game devs as well as LGBTQ leaders, including folks from Geeks Out, MidBoss Games, and GayGamer.net.
You will see panels being announced and launched on our "Sched" app, which will come out in late May.

Risks and challenges
Making sure the con is a safe, fun environment for all is our top priority. That's our biggest goal: to make it fun, enjoyable, and safe for all attendees.
We also have a separate team that is currently also working on our very first game, Read Only Memories, which we crowdfunded in December. We hope to showcase a playable demo, if not the full game, for GaymerX2. Thankfully, the team working on the game has very little crossover with the convention team, and so there won't be too many things on any one person's plate to excel at them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
GaymerX is a gaming convention, first and foremost. We want people to come expecting to go where everyone has one thing in common: a love for games. Video games, card games, tabletop games. We will have panels with gaming celebrities, game devs, and press folks in the industry. We will have booths and content from awesome companies like EFF, SharkRobot and IndieCade, and we will have gaming rooms galore. There will also be a concert, a cosplay contest and dance, a wedding, opening & closing ceremonies, Boss of Honor signings and panels, and much much more!
Will there be a GaymerX3?
Maybe, but I wouldn't take it for granted and say "Oh, I'll just go next year" - running a convention is a more than full time job and if we don't at least break even on costs this year (we actually spent more than we made for GaymerX1), then it won't be likely that we'll be able to continue the convention. Either way, even if this is the final GaymerX, we will continue to fight for equality in the gaming world and won't be happy until all gamers feel equal and all welcome at the table :)
- we have about 40% tables left.
100%. Absolutely. Think of GaymerX like you would a LGBTQ film festival - you don't have to be gay to go to go and watch and enjoy the movies, and engage in spirited debate, and the same is true of GaymerX. We are a convention open to everyone, but with the theme being around providing a safe space for queer folks and those misrepresented in the gaming industry, as well as a place to dive deeper into discussions around queer themes and representations in gaming.
This is because we moved to a new venue in downtown San Francisco that is 3x the size (40,000 sq ft!) of last year's venue, and we've extended convention activities by a full day. We wanted to keep the con price as low as possible, but doing an event in downtown San Francisco at this scale is expensive. In order to address the feedback we got from last year, we moved to a bigger venue that could accommodate a large crowd while still allowing us to take over completely and do things like have gender neutral restrooms.
There were other venues that would have been cheaper, but we wanted to give gaymers the very best this year, and The Intercontinental is truly awesome - plus its just 2 blocks from BART! :D
We've worked closely with Geeks OUT in the past and we've seen the amazing work they do. They are a certified nonprofit and the organization rallies, empowers, and promotes the queer geek community.
From their site:
Ours is a diverse and growing culture made up of enthusiastic fans of all ages, colors, genders, sizes, and nationalities. Through regular events and a dynamic social media and online presence, Geeks OUT seeks to facilitate interaction locally, globally, and virtually, both to celebrate our shared geekiness and to focus and promote our own unique LGBT voice within that community.
Queer culture adds boldness, breadth, and an outsider edge to geek culture. Geeks OUT celebrates our contribution to the larger pop culture conversation by promoting queer and queer-positive artists, creators, and works; by calling out and combating homophobia and lack of diversity in geek culture; and balancing a queer viewpoint on mainstream geekery with a geeky view of the LGBT world.
Geeks OUT aims to offer and maintain a visible and vivacious queer presence at geek events, fostering inclusivity and openness within our community. By hosting a booth at conventions, we highlight the fact that LGBT fans are an integral part of geek culture, encouraging greater participation and representation for this generation of queer fans and the next.
Keep it fun, kids. Central to our mission is the free and un-cynical enjoyment of geek culture. While dedicated to our community, we stand united in fandom. Celebrating and promoting the LGBT fans within geek culture strengthens and enriches that culture for all.

The reason for this is twofold. One is that we want to be able to provide a safe and welcoming space for everyone, and working with youth is something that we're not skilled at, and we feel as though we wouldn't be able to make the experience great for everyone. Secondly, there are insurance issues involved with the venue and having under 18s. That being said, we are eager to look at other ways we can engage and work with the queer geek youth community.
Please email email@example.com for more info - Half Indie Tables start at $149 (which includes a ticket) or $299 for a Full Table (which includes two tickets!)
