GaymerX is the premier event series for LGBTQ Gamers and Games. At GXEast in New York on November 4th and 5th, attendees will experience the newest and greatest in queer gaming culture. With handpicked game demos, exciting presentations, and special guests, this is a conference you won't want to miss.

What is GaymerX?
GaymerX is an event where we come together to celebrate games and the ways that they are enjoyed by LGBTQ people. It’s a place where people can play, learn, make friends, and have one of a kind experiences. Since 2012 we have had 7 GaymerX events, from San Francisco, to New York, and even Sydney, Australia! GaymerX East is our New York event!
Where is GaymerX East?
GX East ‘17 will be held at the Microsoft Building in Times Square NY. Microsoft is awesome in lending us this space where we can come together. Not only is the space great, but Times Square is a really cool and historic location! Tons of nearby food and entertainment options for when you want to take a break from the event!
We'll have lots of great developers! Not only that, but we’ll have lots of great local groups bringing their stuff our way! We will also have VR games and experiences available for you to play, some of which you can't play anywhere else! If you're a local queer dev, be sure to get in touch soon as we're already planning the space!
We won't just have video games, we'll also have plenty of board and card games to play!
At GaymerX we always have a wide range of guests from game developers, voice actors, cosplayers, games critics, researchers, and fans like you! Learn from awesome people and hear some stories you won't hear anywhere else about games and how they're made.
Of course we'll give you guys all sorts of cool stuff and goodies from MidBoss!
Each reward tier contains what is listed in the "Included" list in the selection. As always, we'll be using the awesome tool Backerkit so that once the campaign is over, you'll be able to pick and choose what you'd like in case you change your mind!

Why we need funding
Events like ours are great because they can connect a lot of people with similar interests together! Unfortunately, throwing an event like this is not cheap, or even free. That's why we need help from people like you to make it happen.
We've put together some of our current working budget for you to see roughly where the money is going. These are generally all broken down into many more segments which have been consolidated for visibility.
We are fortunate to have done so many events now that we budget appropriately, but that does mean that we have to ask for a responsible amount in order to run the event and make sure that it's of good quality.
Risks and challenges
As with every GaymerX event, we try to keep the tickets affordable while still running a great again. This often means that we wind up breaking even or even losing money. With GXEast we are being loaned a venue by Microsoft at no fee, which takes out more than half of the cost of running an event.
The first GXEast was handled by keeping the event and budget very small and tight. This year we know a little more about what to expect from New York and should have a little more wiggle room to do more cool stuff.
As with most New York buildings, before one can gain entry to the upper floors of the building where the event is held they must first show their ID and be issued a building pass. This pass will have the name that is present on the person's ID. For a lot of trans and undocumented people this can be problematic.
New York locals would be used to this but it might be a surprise for out-of-towners. Last year we were able to take this process into our own hands and deal with it with a level of privacy that made people comfortable. While it's very unfortunate that legal names have to be printed onto the pass, the passes actually are only used once, on a machine at the entrance, and nobody ever has to look at it other than the person who checks you in. We'll also do everything we can to make people aware of this in multiple communications leading up to the event.
GaymerX events often have A LOT of cosplay going on. At GaymerX East this is a bit harder to do. Most of our events are held in hotels or convention centers with hotels adjacent.
GaymerX East does not have an adjacent hotel which means that cosplayers would have to travel to the event space in costume and wouldn't have the ability to change without leaving. We would like to still incorporate this important form of expression in some way and will be trying a few things this year.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
