I'm in Eugene, Oregon, for one month to complete what will be my 20th independent release! I'm working hard on a new coloring book for the album, which will be Vol. III in my coloring book series. I'm working on ten songs at Ninkasi Brewing's studio with James Book, formerly of The Flys, which we will release later this year. We tracked our first two songs tonight and I'm even more excited about them than I hoped to be. Listen to a tiny clip here from our first week of tracking:
I'm planning to manufacture 300 coloring books to start, which I will complete during my stay in Eugene. I've enjoyed putting out coloring books with my cds so much, and the trend of coloring books for adults has continued to grow since i first released the Make Believe coloring book in 2010. I've since come to understand that coloring is very beneficial for stress relief, so I'm even more enthusiastic about this next book. As before, I will be creating a piece of art for each song on the album. (See this fun article on how coloring is good for your brain: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/13/coloring-for-stress_n_5975832.html)
Since I drove to Eugene (I couldn't possibly get all of my instruments on a plane) part of this will go to covering travel costs, including flying my guitarist up to Eugene from San Diego. We're releasing this album on vinyl, so this will be my first full length vinyl release. All funds above travel costs and coloring book costs will go to publicity for the album.
*Travel Costs for 1 month in Eugene (driving, flight, accommodations, food) to enable me to record 10 songs at Ninkasi Brewing: ($700)
*Printing costs for the coloring book will be upwards of 1200, depending on the total number of pages
*Kickstarter fees will take 10%. Anything we raise above the 2000 will go to a publicity campaign for the new album.
Thank you for supporting this project! I can't wait to share it with you.
Risks and challenges
I'm currently working on fulfilling an IndieGogo project, my collaboration with Erdis. We're in the middle of the recording process, and will be finishing up by the end of summer! We didn't reach our funding goal for this project, so it's going slower than the others.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
